Sometimes being *way* behind in reading has benefits.  In the NYT Book
Review 10/26/97 :-) there was a nice review of a cat photo book so I
logged into Amazon and bought it for a coupla bucks.  Someone here can
tell me post-facto whether it's worth it I'm sure, heh. and there are
more available used and remaindered for $3 or less.
Norm (actually, I'm current in book reviews except for this -tiny-
backlog from 1996/7 when I moved to the Poconos)

I *love* this book - it's well worth having. Of course, now that you've
purchased that one, you'll have to get his other books, "Kittens in the
Sun", "The Mediterranean Cat", "The Complete Cats in the Sun", and "Cats
in Love" (the last one must be new, I haven't heard of it before). What's
not to love about books full of gorgeous photographs of cats in Greece? :)

Somebody has been scanning from those books and posting on
alt.binaries.pictures.animals.  I believe there's also a dog series.

That's a HUGE no-no!  One should only post non-copyrighted photos to the
binary groups!  But then again, I know you know that. :)

Yeah, but he's not claiming them as his, and lets everyone know that he's
just scanning them.  At first I liked the series, but then I realized that
all the cats (and dogs) in these pictures were in a place where none of them
were ever speutered, and were probably never taken to a vet (if there is
even a vet on this Greek island where the pics were taken), and some did not
look to be in the best of health.  I started feeling sorry for them, whished
I could go over there, round them all up and get them vetted and speutered,
but I can't do that (monetarily speaking) and so I stopped looking at the
pics.

Even giving credit is not enough without the author's express permission.
He (she) is devaluing these photos by giving away for free what the author
is trying to sell.  Let's hope the author (and his lawyers) don't catch this
guy or he's in *big* trouble with copyright infringement.

By Hans Silvester?  I have that one; lovely, lovely pics.  The kitty
on page 77 looks almost exactly like my cutie-pie Hubert; you get your
money's worth right there!  :-D
