Thank you Christine :^)
Maybe no one will mind me saying that while I have been away from RPCA, I have not been able to forget (<VBG>) people and cats whom I came to grow fond of when I regularly posted here. Therefore when I returned a few days ago, it was great to see many familiar names.
With warmest regards

O J - 10 Oct 2004 15:38 GMT Not all of ours have them and some have several. The one that stands out though was Sumo's when he was younger and hadn't put on what I call his 'tomcat weight', that muscle that cats put on after their bone structure has reached full size. He was such a skinny little thing that DH used to call him "Tiny Heinie".

I also like the name of our daughter's 21 pound kitty - Sherman (after the tank). And earlier at our house there was dear old Fatty-bum - who before she ballooned was at times Hellcat, Irving, and Irvingette when we discovered she was a girl.

I have one cat, Persia. I've been calling her Rumblebug (she rumbles when she purrs) for a while. Boo boo has recently started coming out of my mouth for no discernible reason, but she doesn't seem to mind :) Of course Sweetie and Pretty also seem to fit her.

Jeanne Hedge - 06 Oct 2004 04:25 GMT Natasha has the obvious nickname of "Tasha". She's also known as "Madame Wetfeet" because she's always drinking from her water bowl with her feet (puts her feet into her water bowl then licks them off)

She's also known as > "Madame Wetfeet" because she's always drinking from her water bowl > with her feet (puts her feet into her water bowl then licks them off) I wonder why one earth they do that. I've had several that do it. But Tommy really takes the cake - he has to splash the water out of the bowl with a paw several times before he'll drink any, and because of him I end up having to refill the bowl about three times more often than I would if he'd just drink the damn water like everyone else!
Jeanne Hedge - 06 Oct 2004 05:59 GMT >> Natasha has the obvious nickname of "Tasha". She's also known as >> "Madame Wetfeet" because she's always drinking from her water bowl [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] >to refill the bowl about three times more often than I would if he'd just >drink the damn water like everyone else! I think it's just one more example of them thinking they're people.
Something else Tasha used to do was to pick up a piece of dry cat food with one paw(1), and then dip it into the water before eating it. Of course, 9 times out of 10 she'd drop the food into the water before she managed to dip it, and then she'd refuse to fish it out. Lots of water changing and bowl cleaning went on during the years she was on that kick!
(1) As near as I could tell, she was picking up her dry food by hooking it with one or more claws - not pushing the claw into the food but hooking them around the food, kind of like very sharp tongs <g>

One of my 'tiels refuses to use the bird bath. I ended up putting two water bottles on the cage. She takes a bath about once a week, empyting a bottle each time. I always know when she takes a bath, since they get fresh water each night. I especially know if I happen to be sitting in the recliner at the time. The bird bath is semi-enclosed, but since she refuses to use that she splashes water all over using the bottle and the recliner is next to the cage.

CatNipped - 06 Oct 2004 14:18 GMT > I wonder why one earth they do that. I've had several that do it. But > Tommy > really takes the cake - Bandit does the dip and lick, but Demi also "touches" the water first before drinking (Jessie and Sammy both love to drink from running faucets). I think it's because they can't see where the surface of the water is and don't want to stick their faces too far down into it. Cats see best by detecting motion, so when the surface of the water is disturbed they can judge where to stick their tongues.
Because Bandit does the dip and lick, I have to change the water and scrub the bowl every time I see litter in the bottom!
Hugs,
CatNipped

(they speak German in Germany, French in France, > ??? in Finland) The majority of Finns speak Finnish, but we're a minority of around 6% who speak Swedish as our first language. Finland used to be under Swedish rule off and on from the 12th century to 1809. And the language thing is not so simple, yes, they speak German in Germany, but there are also language minorities, like a huge Turkish-speaking minority, as well as other language minorities. Finland has two official languages, Finnish and Swedish, which means we Swedish-speakers have e.g. our own schools and we have the right to get official information in Swedish etc. IIRC, Canada based its language legislation on that of Finland.
