Pandora got checked again by her vet this evening as she is still
hideously lame. He believes that she has infact either torn or ruptured
her cruciate ligament in her left knee. :o(
My little girl has stuffed herself up good. We have to wait for another
few weeks, to see how it goes, and then she may be facing a very
expensive surgery. Please purr and send prayers that she is on the mend
soon and she can avoid the operation, because at this juncture I have
absolutely no idea how I am going to be able to afford it if she needs
it.
I am gutted to say the least.

Poor Pandora! :( I'm sorry that she's still having such serious problems.
And I'm sorry that it might come to needing an expensive procedure. I
know how that feels: Where is the money going to come from? But not doing
it is not an option.
Purrs for her quick recovery!

Purrs for you and Pandora. That is indeed an expensive and involved
surgery. Hopefully she will somehow mend herself.

Poor Pandora, that sounds very painful for the poor dear! Purrs on the
way that her leg will heal on it's own and quickly. Is there anything
that can be done now to ward off the spectre of surgery? I know nothing
about this kind of injury, but I would assume your vet has already
immobilized the injured joint if that's the correct thing to do in that
case. I know what you mean. We love them and can't bear to see them
suffer, and yet, there are other, very real financial concerns in our
lives. I will admit, much as I loved him, Pan's high later life vet
bills are the one thing I WON'T miss about him. If Pandora must have
the surgery in the end, purrs that the necessary money will be found
somehow, somewhere.

Big purrs for you and poor Pandora coming from us, Helen.
I hope your vet will work with you and let you work out a payment plan re
the vet bills. I was able to do that for some of the rescue bills I
incurred; however, I know how it is as I have some major bills to pay off my
credit card for what it took to pay for Omar's care and meds and the recent
dentristry/tooth extractions for Midnight and Robin.
commiserations,

I do hope she manages to rest and recover. That's the ligament that goes on
a diagonal through the knee right?
Our families have always had small poodles and they are famous for rupturing
that ligament as they get older. Usually jumping on and off things they
shouldn't and landing badly. I think I've paid for the repair surgery at
least four times, and I know one of my mother's dogs wrecked it at least
twice and maybe three times. That's not counting the dog that was
constantly dislocating her hip requiring surgery.
Not so common in a cat and they are a little more delicate when it comes to
fixing things. So we will be sending extra purrs to Pandora. Don't wait
too long. It is is a torn on ruptured ligament it won't get better on it
own.

That IS what Phoenix was diagnosed with, and as I posted before, he is now
better, so don't go rushing into surgery too soon. Our vet said that it is a
difficult surgery on cats and is therefore not done unless absolutely
necessary. He was given some painkilling shots for the first week, then left
to get better on his own. He limited his own movement to what he felt able
to do.(Although this was sometimes more than we thought he was capable of!).
To see him chase after Memphis now, you would have no idea he had been
injured. It has however taken from mid January to now to heal properly, it
is not a quick process.

Oh dear. Lots of purrs that it will improve without surgery. Vet treatment
seems to cost an incredible amount lately.
If it turns out that she *does* need surgery in the end, if your income is
small/erratic and you have no savings to speak of, have you thought that you
could take her to the PDSA if there is one near you, or the Blue Cross?
They are there for just this sort of circumstance.
I'm a fundraiser for the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals for
those not in the UK) It's a charity that provides veterinary care for
people who cannot - for whatever reason - afford private vet treatment for
their pet.
It's a cause that is particularly close to my heart. When I was 15 a dog
that was very beloved to me had to be put to sleep because of lack of funds
for an operation which would have cured her. She had pyometra, a
life-threatening womb infection, and would have been saved had the money
been available for her hysterectomy. She was only 8 years old.
One way I raise funds is to put all the copper coins out of my purse into a
jar and when it's full I take it to the bank and get it transferred to the
PDSA account. When my neighbour grew far too many runner beans, I went
round and picked them every day, bagged them up, sold them at work and sent
the money to the PDSA.
I can't imagine much worse than your beloved pet (whatever it might be)
becoming ill and not being able to afford the treatment, because it can mean
a death sentence if you can't.
The grief and the guilt would be terrible. That's another reason why I try
and raise money for the PDSA.

Fortunately, at this juncture I have the eventuality covered. The minute
I have some cash, they're getting insured again - except Tiger is
uninsurable with his heart problems. The problem with the PDSA (I
looked into it) is that you *DO* have to be recieving some form of
hosuing or council tax benefit to qualify. Unfortunately, I don't. :o(
I'm in the process of liquidising some assets so that it won't crop up.
I do however find it particularly odd that my financial circumstances
are dire at the moment but I'm liquidising assets not for me, but for a
trust fund for the kids. Pandoras accident was a wake up call for me.

What a pity, I hoped you would qualify.

It's not odd at all. I try to have money put away in a separate bank
account for vets bills for the cats & birds but I don't earn a lot and
Enid's vet bill will stretch it. I know how you feel.
I shall ask the vet if he will accept £50/month towards Enid's vet bill. I
think he probably will because she's dead.
Would your vet offer to take payments? Mine usually do.
