He's creaking along, and I cannot bring myself to make that last
appointment quite yet.  But there is a clear contrast between his
demeanor and appearance and that of the two young healthy girl cats.
And I see the weariness in his eyes that you described in Frank's eyes
in his last days.   We've spent the weekend doing some serious cuddling
and heavy petting, and he's getting lots of treats and spoiling. He
definitely knows he's loved. I'm just not brave enough  yet, and I keep
vacillating between he's ready/not ready.

{{{Marina}}} Thanks for the hugs! They never go amiss!

Pan Update: I think it's going to be tomorrow, everyone. Pan is telling
me in the clearest way that a cat can that he is ready to go. I didn't
believe him last week, but I do, now. I'm still not ready for this, but
I am closer to ready than I was last week.  Pan hasn't eaten anything
since yesterday morning, and is very quiet and listless.  I've been
trying to  coax  him to eat with his favorite treat foods, but it is
not working. Last night, he didn't even want a bite of my broiled
chicken which was normally his favorite. Even when I held a tidbit
right under his nose, he just turned his head away, and the result is
the same this morning. I would take him in today, except that I have to
work noon to nine,  and I don't want to be bawling in front of library
patrons. Tomorrow, I won't have to be at work until five  p.m. which
will give me some time to collect myself before I have to face the
public. So please, more purrs for my old dear as he prepares to cross
the Rainbow Bridge.
Sadly,

I wish I had known Pan even better than through this medium. My heart
goes out to both of you.
Shiral - 06 Apr 2006 21:42 GMT
I'm back from the vet's office with an empty cat carrier, and a sad,
but not empty heart.  Nina and Francesca are still here, after all, and
I'll have them both for a long time to come. Pan crossed the Rainbow
Bridge very gently and quickly, and it is my hope that he and Isadora
are together again on the far side, now.  He pretty much collapsed
before  Dr. Mell  had even  finished giving him the injection, and I
had quite a while to sit beside his thin little body and stroke him,
saying last goodbyes.  The saddest time will be when I get into bed
tonight, and he won't be there to curl up on top of me under the
covers.

I'm very sad, of course, but okay.  I had left it too long in Isadora's
case two years ago, which I vowed I would not do for Panther. He had a
gentle, dignified end.

They already are, Ginger-lyn. =o) But I feel rather like I've lost a
four-legged husband. Even with this sadness though, If I had to do it
all all over again, I'd still take that little green-eyed black
fuzzball of a kitten home with me.  The first day Pan and I met, he
climbed right into my lap and started purring. I took it as an
indication that my right kitten had found me. You can't  put a price on
eighteen years of unconditional love, and it's worth the sorrow of
parting, I think. It's more than worth it.
Thank you all for the kind wishes. They are incredibly helpful, right
now.

Hugs and purrs for a gentle crossing. Although at times like these I
never really know what to say.

I know from sad personal experience that nothing I can say or write
will help right now. Hopefully, the messages of support from people
who truely understand your loss will help in the days ahead. When
Rocky died I saved the many messages I received, many of them unread.
Eventually, they WERE read, and they DID HELP.

I think that's one of the saddest sights in the World, someone standing
outside a vet's with tears running down their face and the empty cat
carrier....

Shiral all I can say is you did the best for Pan and he was so much
loved. I haven't been on this list for too long (just over a year) and
I felt I knew him and I wish I'd known him longer...All I can offer is
a hug and a prayer for both of you
