LOL - 04 Oct 2004 08:22 GMT Lula has a thing for jewelry. I habitually wear a watch, a bracelet, and my wedding ring, and she frequently seizes one of these with her teeth and yanks hard, hard enough that she'll succeed in breaking the bracelet one of these days. I can't figure out, though, whether she disapproves of jewelry or wants some for herself. Maybe I should get her a collar.
I don't put my bras in the clothes dryer, and brought in a couple wet from washing and hung them on a folding clothes rack in the bedroom to dry. I went back out to the laundry room, and when I came back one of the bras was on the bed and the other was out in the hall. Hubert insists there was a freak tornado in the bedroom, but I'm thinking he's channeling Seanette's Felix. ;-)
Hubert is an Olympic-caliber sleeper. He'll suddenly sit up, stretch, and then topple back over, asleep again before he's down. When he does actually wake up, he staggers around yawning and blinking and smacking his lips for a good while.
Tallulah, on the other hand, is a very light sleeper. The other night both cats were asleep, and I tiptoed by Lula *carrying my shoes* because I thought I might actually get to scoop the boxes without "help" for once. Nope. Suddenly there's a little black cat scurrying down the hall behind me.
When Tallulah gets excited she shivers her tail like she's spraying (she's not, though) and makes tiny little meeeee noises. She gets this excited every time I get anywhere near the shelf where the canned food lives.
Hubert is now able to open the kitchen cabinets. Since I persist in my weird delusion that there are things which are Not For Kitties (well, Hubert thinks it's a delusion), I have run a long string through the cabinet handles and tied them shut. Hubert knows why he can't get them open any more; I've seen him pawing at the cabinets and then tweaking the string. A smart kitten is a scary, scary thing.

Karen - 04 Oct 2004 14:41 GMT Excellent as usual!!! Hubert is going to be quite the "manly man". I can just see him scratching his belly and yelling for a cuppa joe after your sleeping description!

But I hope this isn't an indication that Hubert wants to wear bras!

Nylons, at least; one wearing at most and they've met the Claws of Doom and are only good for tying the tomato plants to their stakes.

I've caught Felix red-pawed fishing nylons out of the handwash bag [he does seem to leave them alone when they're on me] and fishing panties out of the drawer. :-)
Of course, his Dad encourages him. They have a deal: Felix gets to play with the bras, his Dad plays with the contents. :-)

She's almost 9 pounds now but her feet and tail are still too big for her. It's like she's always trying to keep up with them. What's funny is that she is bigger than Jessie (who's 6 pounds) and Demi (who's 7 pounds), almost as big as Bandit (who's a little over 9 pounds), but she's still just a kitten who wears herself out playing and then comes over to curl up next to me and suck her toe!!! ;>

When I got home from work, she would slowly come to the door, then she would sit there, swaying gently back and forth with her eyes half closed. She had to come and greet me, but she could barely stay awake for it.

Frank is one too. Sometimes, he goes on a rampage and opens every single door in the flat. The ones he can't open, he screams at until I come and a) open the offending door, or b) carry him away, hissing and swearing.

Persia also opens cabinets and the pantry door. She knows where the food is. I remember one time I went in the kitchen and saw a deep drawer at the bottom of the cabinet (I store placemats and napkins in it) standing open. These are cheap apartment drawers with no handles or drawer-pulls. Before I could slam it shut, I saw a pair of glowing green eyes looking at me from behind the drawer. Thank goodness I saw her, otherwise I would have slammed the drawer on her (OUCH!). Without handles, I still don't know how she got the dang drawer open.

Since I persist in >>>> my weird delusion that there are things which are Not For Kitties [quoted text clipped - 32 lines] > > Theresa One of my dogs, Trim (RB) was obsessed by food, and she would break into the fridge and food cupboards. For the fridge, I tried a plastic strip, attached by suckers over the door onto the body of the fridge, it's to stop babies getting in. It worked for two days, but she soon learned how much pressure to reply to get it off. For the fridge, which had an integral worktop that extended over the top of the drawer, I drilled down through the worktop into the door and slipped a large nail in through both. That did it.
For the food cupboards I installed either a suitcase lock, if the door extended over the edge, or a cupboard thingie you can buy to keep babies out, which is like a lomg plastic hook inside one door, that fastens onto a hook on the other. Humans just need to press the hook to get in. It worked for quite a while on Trim. I knew she was getting annoyed about it when I found wooden spoons and my electric mixer in her bed. But it didn't work long enough.

They kept getting out at night (a dozen times) so they installed cameras. This one dog figured out how to open his cage from inside the cage; he goes and eats, then the cameras show him going down the cages, one at a time and opening up each one, letting all the others out! It is really amazing. This dog should be in show business!

He's a lurcher, they are absolutely the worst thieves, I had one for 14 years. She could get into the fridge, into the food cupboards, you name it. I'm not a bit surprised it's turned out to be a lurcher. I once watched mine push an upholstered stool on castors up to the bookcase so she could climb on it to get a chocolate Easter egg off the top. I wouldn't put anything past them. They wouldn't make good guide dogs, they have no particular desire to please (except themselves.) They are hounds. Hounds only please themselves, especially if there's food involved.

PS: So where do you keep your stuff like cleansers that's Not For Kitties?
Marina - 06 Oct 2004 04:30 GMT > PS: So where do you keep your stuff like cleansers that's Not For > Kitties? They're in one of the closets they can't open. If the door is large and heavy enough, even Frank can't budge it. They're also up on a shelf where they can't reach them inside the closet. Hoolikittens might be able to get to the cleansers (I don't even have any very strong stuff), but staid old kitties can't be bothered. ;o)
