A true story:

The guy even has a picture on the page of the cat from the
song, so you can look at the handsome fellow (the cat, not
the singer) while you listen to the song.
In fact, he seems to be quite the cat lover, as he also has
a page of photos of all his cats (including Hector, who is
mentioned in the song).

And another page with cat pictures his fans have sent him:
http://www.loobiecore.com/YOURCATS.html
Note - the site is not very well-designed, it has kind of a
"low-fi" sensibility, so it's a little hard to navigate. But
you get to see a lot of cat pictures as you try to find your
way around. :)

Where'd the kitty come from? Where'd the kitty go? :)
This really is a very cute song, worth hearing! It's all about a stray
who comes to live with the person, but who wanders in and out of their
lives until they bring "her" in to be spayed. The vet informs them that
"she" is a he. In the end, the song says,
"... Wherever he came from, now he's got a home
If he ever leaves again, I'll be home"
