He doesn't get many extras, being diabetic, and there's never any meat,
fish or chicken in the house so he doesn't beg.  The other night I
tried this new veggie chilli burger thing that I bought, I thought it
was really disgusting actually, it sort of stuck to your mouth, wasn't
meaty (which I could understand him getting confused over) and had no
discernible chilli taste about it.

Anyway, I cut him off a bit as he was sniffing about, and he ate it.
He's done this before when he's been tricked into thinking something
vegetarian was really meat, but he doesn't usually come back for
seconds!  Still, saved chucking it out...

I also got my mum (aged 81) to try tofu in peanut sauce with shitaake
mushrooms this weekend, and she loved it!  I told her there was no
chilli in the peanut sauce cos I knew she won't try anything that has
"chilli" or "Curry" in the title.

That sounds yummy!

LOL! Miranda has surprised me many times by eating my veggie food.

My mum (aged 77) usually tries my veggie cooking without prejudice.
She's even started to cook vegetarian herself sometimes. As long as I
don't pour heaps of chili in it, she likes it (or so she says). How do
you prepare shiitake mushrooms? I like all kinds of mushrooms, and
usually I can make something nice out of them, but with shiitakes I'm
doing something wrong. Somehow they always just end up like slimy
tasteless lumps.

I didn't make it myself, we were in a Thai restaurant in Leeds.  She
ordered the mushrooms as a starter and it came with the Tofu, which was
sliced quite finely.  I know they both hate the texture of Tofu (which
I can understand even though I love it) - but she really enjoyed it, I
told her every time we go there they have to try something new, as
they've only been eating Thai food for a few months since I persuaded
them to try it, and now they're hooked!  We're going to go there again
for our joint birthday parties when my family from Australia will also
be there, then my sister and nephew are treating me to a Who concert!
I never saw them before, I wish I had when Keith Moon was still alive,
and I'm not sure I'll ever get the chance again.

I love Thai peanut sauce. I have a jar of it in my fridge. I use it to
pep things up.

I like to use sweet chilli sauce in tons of things for the same reason,
I'm not a hot chilli fan but sweet chilli is just nice and warm!  I
especially like it as a marinade for Fried Halloumi (with fresh thyme
and garlic sauce) - mmm, must go eat my cheese sarnie now, am drooling!

Enjoy!  They were the Saturday night headliners at the Isle of Wight
festival a couple of years back.  Despite being amongst the oldest
performers there (Steve Harley and David Bowie also performed), they
left the youngsters standing for sheer *ooomph*.

I thought they were amazing on Live8, together with Floyd, blew the
youngsters away, showing my age now I know!  I can't believe how strong
Daltrey's voice still is, mind you he was the "clean living" one wasn't
he :)
