Pat - 24 Mar 2006 05:31 GMT I am losing my mind, or are there other people who sometimes feel electrical hits in the hand from the computer's mouse.
Please, folks, don't be kind and say you have felt this if you have not. Be honest. I need to know if it's time to call the guys in the white coats to come and take me away to the funny farm.

It's an electrical object....something is probably wrong somewhere and you *are* getting shocked.
Or maybe you've got a little nerve damage or something in your hand. I think both explanations are quite possible.

I think this is probably more likely than than real shocks. I don't think the mouse runs on much electricity. Of course, if there's some kind of short, then there might be more electricity than there's supposed to be.
But minor nerve damage, or even pinched nerves, can give you sensations similar to electric shocks. After, all, it *is* electricity in your nerves, that's not travelling the right way when there's damage. I sometimes get a sensation of something small and sharp, like a pin, poking me in the leg, and I'll think an insect is on me and biting me, but when I look, there's nothing there. I do have some pinched nerves in my back, which occasionally send sparks down the nerves in my leg. The pain or discomfort might not be where the damage or pinching is, either, because nerve pain can be "referred" to another location.
Might be good to get that looked at if you keep feeling that.

I had this weird neuropathy pain in my leg after surgery. It felt *exactly* like an electrical shock.

This is not an unusual problem, and there are even grounded mouse pads that are sold to eliminate static electricity. You can find many on the Internet. Here is one example: http://www.staticpros.com/grounding_specialty2_pc_monitor.html

I, on the other hand, may be, as I read the title of your posts and had a mental vision of small rodents armed with cattle prods ;-)

I didn't even notice the OT, I thought the cats were under attack from some sort of urban mouse squad.

I imagine it's possible for static to build up as you use the mouse, that would give you a mild shock.

I haven't ever got a shock from my computer mouse, but I don't see that it couldn't be possible. It is attached to your computer, and your computer is plugged in to "the electricity." Electricity is funny stuff. All things are possible, bad and good, with "the electric" so my grandmother said.. <smile>

Dunno about the guys in white coats, but you might have an electrician check your computer connections - it might not be STATIC electricity!

> Dunno about the guys in white coats, but you might have an electrician > check your computer connections - it might not be STATIC electricity! I was thinking the same thing! If that house is in as bad shape as Pat posts (bad wiring?) there may be more things in there AFA electric that could do worse than give you "static shocks". But are you pretty immune to electric shocks anyway? You posted before about "testing" your electric fence charger by getting yourself a "pretty good bite" off of it....electrician friends have told me that unlike the rest of us, they gradually get used to and are not much bothered by 110V "shocks" while working. However, we never heard any more re the "bad wiring" of the house.

She keeps zapping the computer and I have to buy a new computer. Not anymore. She doesn't touch the computer! That said, I reember telling the tech who rewired our house that I was getting a shock from the water tap. He checked and found a loose wire that had touched the water pipe and was glad that I had told him.
My doctor thanked him. dave
