I just found the absolute coolest, most ridiculously expensive piece of
cat furniture. If I win the lotto, I'm getting one of these for the crew:

I wonder how hard would it be to make one myself.... hmmmmm....

If I were you, I'd go and collect a bunch of free cardboard boxes from
the grocery and try to design one.  That way your cats will like it
better anyway.

My cats prefer things that weren't made specifically for them.  Like
just plain cardboard boxes-- I have them all over the living room.  Not
very artistic, but cheap.  What is really fun is when one of them camps
out in a box and another comes tearing up thinking they're going to go
into the box and finds it already occupied!

I will say....that looks like it would be one hell of a lot of work.
Intersting though.

It looks like they must have a mechanical stage hooked up to a
computer running a CAD program to translate their designs to layers.
The end result looks a lot like what comes out of those 3D printers.
It's neat.

I wonder if you could send them a CAT scan of your head and ask them
to make one of those in the shape of your brain? :)

Wow! I mean, it looks nice and all - but it's just cardboard for pity's
sake!

That's called a cardboard box with a few holes cut in it.... shabby chic and
all that ;-)

I love it - I could just see the boys peering out all those holes!  I can
also see that my boys would reduce that cardboard to *extremely* shabby chic
in no time.  Chester loves to scratch cardboard :-)

That is so cool and clever! But $249!!!!! US$, too, I presume! I don't
even want to calculate how much it would be in our money!

Roughly $288 CAD and I bet the cats would ignore it. ;-)

Yet in one of the pics on the web site, a cat is clawing at it... it's made
of cardboard... how long will it last? In the case of my three, possibly a
day or two!

Yeah, it would not last long here either. Xoxo *loves* to scratch on
cardboard and the boy has long claws. :)

Surely they have got the idea for this cocoon from a wasp's nest?
They are made of cardboard too - chewed by the wasps.
And the shape...

What did wasps use before humans invented cardboard?

You've got it backwards - the wasps invented it, humans
adopted it!

Those really are the absolute coolest. AND ridiculously expensive. What
makes it so ridiculous is that it's basically made of cardboard, and
while the cats would love it, in a month's time it would be a shredded
eyesore. A $250 shredded eyesore.

You know, I"m not sure that it would. That is a LOT of cardboard. A REALLY
lot of cardboard. It's probably pretty darned sturdy. Eventually yeah, but I
think it would last a while.

You're probably right, but there would always be a little pile of
cardboard "crumbs" right underneath it, from the cats' daily activities.

If you can figure out how to do it yourself, good luck.
Judging from the "shelf-life" of the corrugated cardboard
scratching trays and gadgets I have, I don't think even
winning the lottery would justify BUYING one!

It looks like the ultimate Tyche Box.

If it were up to Tyche, Mom would add to her toy collection more often,
because Mom has to save up for big, expensive toys that come in big
boxes.  It takes more time for Mommy to save than it does for Tyche's
stupid sister to sit on the roof of the box (when Tyche's inside it)
until it's ruined, right Kumani?
