Oops! (Sorry, I noticed the reference to IAMs when I
started my reply, but didn't really re-read your post to see
it was the price of Hills that was giving you pause.)

Yeah, I never have understood why pet food is taxable, but
human canned goods and ready-to-eat snacks are not! Is
restaurant "take out" taxed? It did not used to be,
although you pay tax on the same food items if you eat them
there.
