Stowaway....

Nanny - 08 Mar 2006 19:18 GMT Today a 6 month kitten arrived in Holland as a stowaway on a ship coming from Scotland. He was brought to a shelter somewhere and if nobody claims him he may stay in Holland. So if anyone in a port in Scotland is missing a cat/kitten, tell me. I have no idea in which shelter he is, only the region, but if an owner should come forward maybe I can locate him.

Wayne Mitchell - 09 Mar 2006 03:37 GMT >Help Tuatha de Dannan!!!! Je hoeft alleen maar hier te klikken. :-) OK. You've got me curious. I don't speak Dutch and haven't a Dutch phrase book handy. I recognize the Tuatha de Dannan as Celtic gods, but can't guess what is being said about them.

I could be completely wrong, this is based on my knowledge of Swedish and German.

Since it came from Scotland, maybe someone thought it would be appropriate to name it after Celtic gods...

That is hilarious! Completely un-understandable, but hilarious nevertheless. Kinda reminded me of those Chinese Menu translations that Joyce posted the other day. Did you use some kind of translation software for that, Matthew?

Matthew AKA NMR ( NO MORE RETAIL ) - 09 Mar 2006 16:54 GMT no I said it was rusty I looked at this morning and my wife started laughing at me. I started to re read it and realized what I wrote. Smack me in the head
I used the translator that someone posted and saw what I wrote , <got a good laugh> but that is what you get from learning the language second hand and from a American school teacher 40 plus years ago I am lucky to see communicate someone that they know another language. It confuses the normal people and it needs few, up to the maintenance it straight.I like a driving it small Nuesse, by the way, which is my name Matthew.I love the illustrations furballs, the belly shot on March 2005 like a fatter version of my spirit looks shaking. I hope that I remind me of my German right, which he used quite one in to the letter I should have read I am happy to see someone post here in another language. It confuses the normal people and they need it sometimes. I love the pictures of the furballs specaily the belly shot on March 2005 it looks like a fatter version of my spirit. I hope my german is right it has been quite while since I used it to write.
how did you find that translator?
>> Hallo Marina; >> [quoted text clipped - 14 lines] > Joyce posted the other day. > Did you use some kind of translation software for that, Matthew? Matthew AKA NMR ( NO MORE RETAIL ) - 09 Mar 2006 17:21 GMT I will admit that I used a one of those hand held electronic dictionaries for some of the phrases. You know the ones that you speak the phrases and it says it for you and prints it on a display. I use it when I go over seas. Time to get a new one that is a little more updated. Either that or time to get those listen and learn German and Dutch with easy tapes

You know the ones that you [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > Matthew > < sitting at his desk face red in embarassment > Don't be embarressed, Matthew. Languages are hard. I know because I've lived in Thailand for 5 years and haven't really learned much more than the numbers, some bargaining phrases, left, right, straight for taxi directions, foods and a few colours. German may be my first language, but I am definitely much more comfortable using English now. Just last weekend, I went out with my friend and his family that was visiting from Germany. They all said my German is great, but I have a hint of an English accent! OMG, I just about died! I don't want to have an English accent when I speak German! I have some kind of accent when I speak English (nobody thinks it's German though). Canadians think I'm Irish and Aussies constantly think I'm American. I just can't fit in anywhere! ;-)

I got something worse than that. You know I live in Florida a way southern state ( hurricane center). I am from the hills of Kentucky originally; a northern state- good old fashion true hillbilly.
I don't have either accents unless I am mad than the hillbilly accent comes out and you better run far and fast.
Now here is the bad part I have a NEW YORK accent. I have never lived in there only visited got some friend there but a good friend is from Brooklyn and as a joke I used to imitate his accent well dumb me it stuck. Now imagine all the hicks sort of to say down here ( rednecks ) all say hey what part of NY ( which they hate new Yorkers ) you come from. You try explaining that to a redneck worse is when a new Yorker comes up and ask what part am I from. That sucks being here in the south where they still hang you and have shotgun weddings for their kinfolk ( just kidding I think )
That was the first time I had tried to write German in over 20 years. It was a good laugh thou my DW won't let me forget anytime soon.

Well, I did wonder why Matthew was posting to Marina in German, since she is Finnish, but now I am intrigued as to what it says. I shall post it to Nüle for a translation into English and await her reply. I'll let you know - although she's in the middle of moving house so I mightn't get a reply straight away.

badwilson - 11 Mar 2006 00:51 GMT >>> Hallo Marina; >>> [quoted text clipped - 28 lines] > > Tweed You don't need to let me know, I speak perfectly fine German myself. What he wrote goes something like this:
I am happy to see meet give somebody that knows another language. She confuses the normal people and they notice little until for entertainment they shake straight. I like the driving she small nuts, by the way, my name is Matthew. I like the pictures the furrballs is, the stomach shot of March 2005, looks like a fatter version of my soul. I hope that I remember my German rights, that it has been a while since I turned to writing.
Now obviously I did a pretty literal translation of what he wrote, without fixing any errors.

Christina Websell - 11 Mar 2006 15:53 GMT >>>> Hallo Marina; >>>> [quoted text clipped - 42 lines] > Now obviously I did a pretty literal translation of what he wrote, without > fixing any errors. Oh, I didn't mean let you know as in "you" I know German is your own first language, I meant "us all" those who don't speak it. N has had a go at it too, but where the English "I" was left in, she's put that back into German "to mimic the effect" This was her literal translation:
"I am happy someone to see to let know that they another language know. She puzzles the normal people and they don't need a lot, until they for a living they shakingly geradeaus. Ich as driving it little nuts, by the way, that my name Matthew. Ich love the pictures the Fellbälle is, the abdominal gunshot wound at March 2005 like a fatter version of my mind looks like. I hope that I my German law remember, which he quite has been a while, since I for writing used..."
It's great! Thanks, Matthew!
