Foster kitty update #2

Well, she is home from kitty hospital.  She is MUCH better.  She ate
half a large can of food tonight.  I've never seen her eat so much.  She
acted like she was starving.  Amazingly enough, when I brought her home,
there was no hissing and spitting from everyone because she smelled like
the vet, they just let her wander the apartment like she had been
before.  That made me feel better because I didn't have to worry about
that stress on her.  All of my cats have crossed paths within inches and
there was no aggression.

I have found out that she is older than we thought.  She is 9 years old.
What is more, the vet, on a hunch sent out some blood work to test her
for hyperthyroidism.  She is mildly above where she is supposed to be,
meaning she is going to have to have treatment for the rest of her life.

The catch in all of this is that the vets could not manage to pill her
(and while I'm good, I am not going to say I could do it when the vet
couldn't), so everything has to go a different route.  I have to take
her to get shots every other day for the urinary tract infection.  And
her thyroid condition is going to have to be treated with a transdermal
patch that will go in her ear once a month or once every other month at
$15-30 a pop - I'm not real sure how this works exactly, but when I find
out, I will let people here know because I know there are people here
with cats with the same condition.

At this point, we don't know if the person who was going to take her
will still want her with the medical condition.  And I'm not sure that
we can find anyone who will be willing to take her with her being this
old and a medical condition.  I don't know what we are going to do,
because I really cannot keep a fourth cat.

If there is anyone on the group that is interested in taking her, she is
beautiful and sweet, I'll get pictures this weekend and post them on a
web site.  We can arrange transportation anywhere between the group and
my friend.  I just want her to go to a good home where she will be well
taken care of.  She is in good health other than the thyroid condition.
Ask people you know, let me know if you are interested.

I think that is about it.  For now, I am just glad to have her home
where she isn't stressed (she HATED TED's office and hissed at them
every time they came near) and to have her obviously feeling so much better.

Aw, poor little girl.  I can't home a fifth cat - we have trouble covering
vet fees for our four girls as it is.  Hopefully her new slave will want her
even with the medical conditions.  Try having a talk to her to let her know
how rewarding taking care of an older kitty can be.

Purrs that everything goes well for her.

I have a cat that is impossible to pill, even for the vet.  She has
had to take a medicine that is not available in liquid form so I
talked with a compounding pharmacist about making it into a liquid.
He also flavored it with beef flavoring.  She loves it.  I just mix
it in with her wet food each morning and she eats it up.  Having
it compounded and flavored wasn't too expensive and a friend of mine
has it done for her cat's thyroid pills.

Thanks for caring for her and purrs for her continued improvement.

Well, the person still might want her.  I'm sure someone will.  I know
that I can't integrate a cat with Oscar (and Eric might be allergic to
a second cat, as he was to Eros).

Very many purrs that the original adopter still wants your kitty, that
she continues to feel better, and that you don't get too stressed with
all of this going on.
