I have filed my taxes as a student for the year 2004. Now, I am trying
to file the taxes for the year 2005 and dont find the document that was
received after filing last year.(receipt for 2004).I now require this
document for filing this years taxes, and cant really go further.

I tried calling several people and IRS for the details, in vain.

I ll be grateful to you guys if you could come up with a solution.

Would be waiting for a reply.

first, try posting to a tax group.

second there is no such thing as a receipt for filing, and one isn't needed
for filing the following year, so you could be looking for it for a long
time.

Uhhh..... that's not entirely true!  If you file via the
internet, you DO receive an acknowledgment, but it may only
be an e-mail (I'm not quite sure how it works for
individuals who file their own returns.)  However, as Jo
says, there's no reason you'd need it in order to file your
2005 taxes.

I work for a tax accountant, and the only thing we could do
if you were our client is to call the IRS (and keep
redialing until we actually got a live person).  If the
"receipt" to which you refer came from the IRS, their
computers would have a record of it - it's just such a busy
time for them that it takes practically forever to get
through to a human being.  (Didn't you keep a copy of the
return you filed?)

www.irs.gov  Look at the site for the link to forms.  You can download and
print them out.  Alternately you can get most IRS forms at your local
library.
