Jasmine limping after desex

meee - 28 Feb 2006 02:22 GMT Yesterday I noticed Jasmine limping slightly, so i checked her feet and legs but nothing. She is indoors-only and doesn't jump around a lot, esp. as she is a bit 'owie' at the moment with her wound. Today, she has a pronounced limp, and it seems to be painful for her to walk on that leg (back left leg). I am taking her to the vet on Thursday to get the stitches out, so I will get her checked, but doesn anyone know of this happening? Would she just be limping because her scar is pulling, or would it actually be her leg? Bit worried, but she lets me know when she's in real pain, so I'll wait and see.

Purrs for Jasmine.

> Sam, closely supervised by Mistletoe Rhonda - 28 Feb 2006 05:44 GMT We had a cat that was very sore after spay surgery and the vet did not send home pain meds. This lasted a day or two. She would start to walk, then sit down like it really hurt.
How long has it been since the spay?
I don't think it should affect one leg like that. If it's not better tomorrow, you might want to get her checked before Thursday.
Good luck,
Rhonda

She was desexed last Tuesday, and no pain meds were given for her either, so she was in a lot of pain the first few days, and is still walking a bit carefully. I checked her leg all over and there is no hardness, heat or swelling, so I am guessing she has either jumped down off something oddly to avoid hurting her wound, and sprained something, or one of the children have accidentally hurt her. She is still walking, and does seem better today, but is just favouring that leg. I will ask the vet tomorrow, as she doesn't seem in pain, so I am thinking it is only minor.

(Sometimes when my doctor's nurse is careless drawing blood, it will be a bit sore where she stuck the needle - and cats' veins are amaller than humans'.)

That's possible. I will have to ask> Thanks for that suggestion!

Well, of course some cats (like some humans) tend to dramatize themselves. I remember the morning after I brought Tigrita back from the vet - she came rushing to greet me and beg breakfast, then stopped suddenly and sort of limped toward me with a pitiful expression on her face. You could just see the wheels turning: "Hey, I'm supposed to be an invalid!"
