One year ago today, I lost my perfect guy, my Grant. I still miss the
flump of him tossing himself down beside me at night. I miss finding
pompom balls in my purse and shoes. I miss his mrrrrp of greating and
his eyes widening at the sound of the word FOOD. I love my girls, but I
sure miss my snuggly, boojie woojie boy, my Mister Fister, my Good Lil'
Buddy, my perfect gentleman, my Mr. Grant. Hug your kitties tight
tonight. You can't ever let them know enough how much you love them.

Yes, you are right. You never know how long you'll be together with
them. I still grieve for RB cats I lost years ago, and to this day can
see their beloved faces in my mind's eye.
Your Grant was indeed a big, beautiful boy, and was blessed to
have his happy life with you to love him back
I could never bear, over the years, to put their earthly remains
in the trash. They are all buried in large backyard of my former
home in FL (exception of one, who sleeps in my son's backyard
where I live now....she went to RB 2 days before Valentine's Day
last year. We had to wait till the ground thawed enough
to put her to rest there).

Egad no. He is (his remaines) in a little wooden chest in my bedroom

This reminds me of when I was discussing Betty's cancer with my
father, and the conversation turned to mortality. I had this great
idea that I could get one beautiful urn and put the ashes of everyone
I love in it, including Betty, my dad, etc. He didn't seem to like
the idea of having his ashes mixed in with a cat's, and who knows what
else... mice? At this moment he's probably amending his will to keep
me away from his remains.

I can just imagine that discussion. Knowing how much you love Betty,
though, it makes perfect sense.

LOL. I certainly wouldn't mind having my ashes mixed with a cat's! In
fact, I find the idea rather comforting. I guess your dad isn't much of
a cat person? :)

Several people here have the neat idea of their ashes mixing with
their kitties. It does seem appropriate for us, doesn't it!

You could have an urn for Betty's ashes and leave instructions in your will
for yours to be added, I've been thinking along those lines for when Snoopy
goes, that way she can be with me for ever.

Oh Tak you do bring a smile to my face! I guess I can see your dads point,
but too, maybe Betty does not want to mix with Dad! I really like the idea
in http://www.ashesinstone.com/ but now that I've had time, I like it that
Grant has his favorite toys right with him. It really helped me to feel
better to give him those for eternity.

Aww, that is a good arrangement. It's a good thing that Grant's
favorite toys weren't those balls in rail toys, or something big, or
else his shrine would be unwieldy! Outdoors is okay too. A friend
had a cat that loved to be outdoors, and whenever I go there, I also
visit the spot where the cat was buried.

I like this idea too, but Spicey might not be thrilled. I want my ashes
poured into Grand Traverse Bay. My familiy (Mom + Dad + Grandparents)
come from Traverse City Mich. I feel a strong tie to there eventhough
I've lived here nearly 8 years.

This made me giggle a little. I can just imagine that conversation
and your dad going "Memo to self: Keep Tak away from my remains!"
My plan is to be cremated, and then mix in all my cats' remains who
have crossed over with mine, and then scatter them wherever I choose
(right now, it's vague -- "body of water". Gotta find a more specific
place.)

Grant was certainly a most handsome, elegant gentleman cat. It's hard to
get good pictures of black kitties, but you have some wonderful ones!
Many purrs for your heartache. I know how it is; I lost my 2 RB kitties
5 and 7 years ago, and a day doesn't go by that I don't remember them.
I'll see a spot where one of them used to like to hang out, and I can
almost see them again.
Under one of my end tables there is still a folded blanket. Kenzie has
never laid on it once, that I know of, but I just can't bring myself to
remove it. It was a favorite place for both Lucky and Blizzard.
They are both in my back yard, with a large stone to mark each spot.
I like knowing exactly where I put them.
In time the pain fades, but for me, it never goes away. Never.

What a lovely remembrance. No wonder you miss him so much!
I love the pompom balls in your purse. That somehow seems like such
a boy-cat thing to do. (Maybe that's because ever since Licky came to

Karen, I don't know you and I didn't know your big beautiful boy black
cat........but I do know the pain in your heart. I'm sending you purrrrrs
along with those of my little lady black cat, Shadow ! I lost my precious
tiny black lady cat, Little Bit, a year ago on the 11th of this month to
kidney failure...... polycystic kidneys. She fought it off for a year and 5
months longer than my vet ever thought she'd make it....... thanks to the
herbs like her mama takes. I'm so glad that she's happy and healthy at RB.
I miss her so. As someone posted, it eventually stops hurting so terribly
bad, but it never really goes away, does it ?

I'm sorry, Karen. He was too young to go, I know how you feel as I may
be facing this very soon (again, it's been less than 2 years since I
