Friendliest Cat in the World

Mattie has got to be the friendliest cat in the world.  As I mentioned
in another post, I am fostering a cat.  The day my friend brought the
cat over for me to take care of, Tony and The Stripey Thing were hissing
at the newcomer and each other and anything that moved.  Mattie walked
right into the carrier and announced herself.  If she were a dog her
tail would have been wagging like crazy.  Her body language was saying
things like...WOW...Who are you?  A new friend?  Wanna play?  You look
nice.  THIS IS SOOOO COOL!!!

It was hysterical.  I've never seen a cat do that.  Consequently, she
and my foster cat now touch noses and sleep within inches of each other
even if they aren't quite totally friends yet.  Everyone else just
tolerates each other.  There is no more hissing going on.  And only a
week has passed.  It is more like they just ignore each other.  I am
very happy.  And my foster cat has settled in.  She keeps telling me she
is staying.  I keep telling her there is a better home awaiting her.
And she settles in more.  She will do just fine where ever she ends up.
She seems to adapt pretty quickly.

Congratulations on your new cat. Got a name yet?

HA. Ha.

Actually, her name is Ca-le-co, spelled Calico.  Guess what kind of cat
she is.  And she really isn't staying.  Someone is coming to look at her
this evening (if they show up).  She is here through at least next week
because she is getting a dental which she needs badly but after that, I
am not averse to sending her to the no-kill shelter here in town.
Someone I know is willing to make a large donation in her name so that
her adoption price will be kept low enough to make her attractive since
she is a little bit older.  This apartment is NOT large enough for four
cats.  I can deal with three cats wanting to be within 5 feet of me all
the time, but for some reason, four cats wanting to be within 5 feet of
me all the time is just too much.  I need more breathing room than that.

So, no more of this, how's the new cat?  I don't have a new cat.  Uh uh.
No way.  No how.  Just wait.  I'll show you guys.  I'll tell you all
about her new home in about a week and how much she likes it and how
nice they are (and if it doesn't happen, I'LL LIE!)

I took this picture yesterday, she's a very pretty cat. I don't know where
she comes from, I do know, Snoopy hates her.

Do they actually do that?  I asked about donating Eros' adoption fees
to his prospective owners, and the shelter manager advised me not to
do that.  She said people swayed by a "bargain" cat are often
unwilling or unable to pay for its needs (medical, care, etc).

Then again, they did reduce the fees for shelter cats if they'd been
around a while, but down maybe $20 total.  So maybe that's
hypocritical.

Anyway, they suggested instead buying a gift certificate to the
shelter's associated pet store and donating that to whoever adopted
him.  That's what I ended up doing.

Rita does that. She has to check out everybody who comes by, especially
the guys. If they sit down, she'll be in their laps, begging for pets.
It's as if I ignore her all of the time!

meanwhile, she hates other animals of all kinds.  They're not allowed.

Isis (RB) was like that. New people would be greeted with what can only
be called the "Where have you been all my life oh my bestest and long
lost friend?! I've been waiting for you!!!"act

Someone asked me if I was cruel to her or something because they
reckoned she put on the sort of show that made people want to take her
home! We used to call her "professionally cute" and "Emeritus professor
of cute cat looks"

ROFL!  Oh I love that.  Rita actually tried to climb into the tool belt
of the guy who was installing my cable.  He seemed surprised to have
this cat so lovey-dovey, since he wasn't exactly a cat lover. (she
would have turned him, had he stuck around long enough, I'm sure)
