Now that Frank is on the mend, I can boast a little about what the vet
at the vet school said about him. She asked me, 'Is this cat really 17
years old?'
I said, 'I hope he will be in November.'
Vet: 'His coat is amazing, it's so shiny. Cats his age usually look a
little moth-eaten.'

I'm a little worried. Pearl is just 8 and she is getting a little of that
moth eaten look. I'm glad Frank is shiny :)

Aww! You know, when they took all those blood tests of Frank the other
week, they gave me the results on a print-out. The heading was: Ger
Feline >8 yr. I thought cats became geriatric at about 12!!
Does Pearl like cream or other dairy products? Maybe a little egg yolk
now and then? She's not very fluffy, IIRC, so she could have a fatty
treat now and then that might improve her coat. Frank's secret is, of
course, that I mix his twice-a-day thyroid meds in a teaspoon of sour cream.

To be honest, I think we will test her thyroid the next time I take her in.
I should try egg yolk. But she eats canned food 3 or four times a day, so
she should have plenty of protien. I'm thinkin' something is maybe going a
bit off though.

Awww! Good for Frank. Bandit is 14 1/2 and her coat is really shiny and
soft too (good food and *LOTS* of beauty sleep!! ;>). I brush her every
night with a soft-bristled brush and this helps too.

Boast away. I always take it as a huge compliment if the vet praises any of
my animals.
I nearly burst with pride once when I was told by one of them at the surgery
"I always look forward to treating your dogs, they are so well-behaved. I
never knew dogs before that I could suture on the face without a general
anaesthetic, how is that when you say "stand still and don't move, they do
it?"
It was a bit blush-making really. I just said that I always insisted from
puppyhood that I could examine every orifice, or wound, even if painful,
take food/or bones from them without complaint etc and that although I was
fairly easy going with them, I never let them get away with not doing what I
wanted, if they knew what it was. And they did, because I taught them.
They were *never* allowed to growl at me.
That's why I don't understand cats..

I don't know what it is, nutrition, or that cat slaves are always
getting smarter about caring for their furry pal, but I see lots of
happy, shiny older cats lately. I think it's just wonderful. ;)
Congratulations on the phenomenal Frank!
