There's some guy on the works bulletin board who is complaining about his
shit-zhu dog scratching itself stupid and smelling really bad. Not
complaining in the 'what should I do' sort of way, but just bitching that
the dog is useless and a pain in the butt.

No doubt I'm going to get flamed from here to next week, but my reply was
simple - if you don't want the dog to scratch & smell bad, take it to the
vet, its a skin condition. If you don't want the dog, period, at least have
the decency to take the poor thing down to the RSPCA.

Some 'owners' ought to be shot (and that is being kind)

You wonder why idiots like that have pets when they obviously don't give a
sh*t about them.

Is it possible the dog just needs a bath?  (SFAIK, only
Bassenji clean themselves like cats do.)

Labs do, too, or at least mine does.  He also cleans the cats when
they're in a good mood, and everytime I reach for the camera he stops.
Purrs and Hugs,

Nan and the furkids

a fool talks because he has to say something.

No, unfortunately. He said he'd bathed it with everything he could think of
and it still stunk and still scratched itself stupid. I dread to think what
cleaning products that poor dog had to endure. Without seeing the dog in
question, and indeed, not being a vet either, my first guess would be some
sort of fungal infection, excacerbated by the use of inappropriate
detergents (or worse) and the long hair shitzhus have.

Or simply food allergies.  A lot of dogs are allergic to corn and a lot of the
cheap brands of dog foods have corn listed as their first ingredient...

Have him get a bag of some sort of Lamb and Rice and see if that makes a
difference...

I assume you didn't include the above in the message, even though it must
have been mighty tempting.
And so very true.
