Tessie's room is stinky and way too hot so I opened the door... Silver
came in to investigate and she's sitting by the door. Tessie was on
the table and she jumped down and Silver hissed at her... They were
staring at each other and I gave Silver some kitty treats (Tessie
doesn't like them) because I wanted her to see that The Evil Stranger
wasn't going to eat her precious food :) I picked Tessie up and put
her on the desk so she was out of Silver's immediate range in case she
was feeling too threatened (she didn't seem to be but I wanted to be
sure) and now she's staring at Silver while Silver sniffs around the
room. No wait, Silver just climbed into the box my new computer came
in and Tessie jumped down and went over there to investigate... When
Silver noticed her she hisspit and Tessie went over to under her
table... Tessie's playing with her toys and Silver glared at her for
bit and then went over towards her, and Tessie didn't like that one
little bit so they hissed at each other. I went to pet Silver and she
ran out of the room and I closed the door to give Tessie some peace,
and she played with her ball making very low deep growls...
Meanwhile, Scouty's sitting outside the door to the craftroom staring
in...
I think that was a success - it wasn't a failure anyway! No blows were
exchanged and nobody was in any danger to life and limb, and I was
watching them carefully to make sure that it stayed that way.
I left Tessie alone for awhile after Silver went out, and then went in
to cuddle her... she's purring blissfully on my lap, but she needs
another bath because I don't think she's very good at washing herself
yet - she's got a serious case of stinkybutt! I wish she'd get
friendly enough with the girls for them to bathe her but I don't think
that'll happen for a long time... she is NOT going to be amused when
we pick her up and put her in the kitchen sink tonight and make her
smell like lavender baby shampoo again. :)

I don't think it's a good idea to bathe a cat so soon after being spayed.
Can't you just use a rag to wash her butt without getting the rest of her
wet?

You probably already know this, but *don't* use a baby wipe for this
purpose. Apparently, they leave a good-smelling but foul-tasting
residue, and the cat will promptly learn not to lick there.
I made this mistake with Doc, wiping his back, and now he is very
reluctant to lick his fur clean. So while he is healthy, he looks
scruffy as all get out.

In science, 'fact' can only mean 'confirmed to such a degree that it
would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.' I suppose that apples
might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal
time in physics classrooms.

Not only that, but baby wipes are toxic to cats.

Toxic? I didn't know that. Is it a long-term effect that I should watch
for, or an immediate effect that made him feel sick? Or something else?

Some baby wipes contain Propylene Glycol which causes Heinz bodies (clumps
of oxidized, denatured hemoglobin) in feline blood and decreases the life of
erythrocytes (RBCs). I don't think the little bit that a cat can lick from
his/her hair would deliver a toxic dose in one sitting, but PG is not
metabolized and can build up to a toxic dose.
Ultimately, it's never a good idea to use something on cats that is made for
an entirely unrelated species - even if it is safe for babies, it may not be
safe for cats.

And maybe it wouldn't be safe for a baby to *ingest* the stuff on a baby
wipe, but babies aren't known to lick their own butts. :)

How about using some baby wipes? You can also get some made=for-cats
wipes at the pet store. Otherwise, an old, damp washcloth would work.
