Cats are Eating My Dinner

I'm starting to get really protective of my dinner as Omar and Midnight and
even Oreo at times are not above stealing my hard-earned dinner right from
under my nose.  Tonight, Midnight was helping herself to leftover chicken
soup from the dish that my son put up on the counter after dinner; that
wasn't so bad, but while I was shooing her down, Omar (!) pawed a noodle out
of my soup bowl (!) and ran off with it --- ack!  Sort of funny, though,
'cause he obviously had thought he'd made off with a morsel of chicken and
seemed rather disappointed it only a mere noodle.

Sooo, immediately afterward I started thinking about song titles for this --
how about

"More Than a Noodle..." (to the tune of "More Than a Feeling")

or

"Where Have All the Noodles Gone? (to "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?")

or

"I've Been to the Table Where There Wasn't Much Left" ("I've Been Through
the Desert On a Horse with No Name")

Why not feed them first?   In the "old days" farmers and ranchers always
fed their animals before they  ate.   MLB

Geez, what kind of slave do you think I am--they always get fed first before
anyone else in the family ... and I'm also a soft touch for a begging kitty
face.  :o)

In our household, DH feeds the kitties and I do the other cat
maintenance.  She will feed them first, but it seems that one or two
will always save room for some 'people food'.

Just doesn't help with some kitties. Even on those special occassions
when I break out the "good" food, good meaning the cats love it but
have little real nutrional value, and they have stuffed themselves,
Sammy will want some of whatever is on my plate. Thankfully, she's the
only one here who begs (or steals) my food. I think sometimes LB eggs
her on, though, since if I give up and put some hoomin food on a plate
for Sammy, LB ends up eating it. Sammy does her begging/stealing
because she likes to, but once she gets her own plate she loses
interest.

Or maybe to the tune of "More than a Woman" (Bee Gees, I think).

"More than a noodle... more than a noodle to me..." :)

Joyce, I believe it was Billy Joel.  "She laughs like a child but she's more
than a woman [okay, a noodle] to me..."

But since you mentioned the Bee Gees, now you've got this song going through
my head.  This goes along with the image of a tuxedo-cat strutting around:
"Well you can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a woman's man, no time to
talk..."

Note: that's Staying Alive for 9 cat lives.

No - that Billy Joel song is "She's *Always* a Woman" (to me)

There is a Bee Gees song called "More Than a Woman" - I swear!! :)

Yeppers, Joyce, I stand corrected.  Billy Joel: "She hides like a child but
she's always a woman to me..."

We seem to be a very music oriented group here.  Do you think cats have
something to do with it?  They do, after all, have rather musical little
voices :)

Well, some of them, anyway. I'm not so sure about Smudge. She has a
certain "rusty hinge" quality to her meow.

Are you a night owl, Jill? Or are you just getting up in the morning?
It's 4 AM here in California. I think you're 3 hours ahead, so yeah, I
guess it's Wednesday to you. You're up early, but I'm up late - and I
still consider it to be Tuesday. :)

I just finished editing a technical manual. A friend of mine is a
contract tech editor, with too much work at the moment, so I'm
subcontracting. At least I'll have a little bit of income!!

Oh, Persia can do this funny little Siamese hinge thing, too.  She's funny.

Congrats on the income!

I have suffered from insomnia for years.  Hmmm, need to see if my doc can
call in a refill of Ambien.  I normally just take Valerian root caps if I
feel like I'm not going to sleep well.  When the insomnia hits I wake up at
2:30 or 3:00 AM.  It was really bad when I had a "real" job.  I'd wake up at
2:30-ish and just toss and turn until I had to get up at 5 and get dressed
and ready for work.  By noon I was exhausted.  But everyone needed my help
for something.  I used to joke I was going to change my name and not tell
anyone what it was so I wouldn't have to answer to cries for "Jill!" all day
long.  Now at least I can go back to sleep when I feel like it.  I think I'm
enjoying this semi-retirement :)

Now, guess what?  Time for me to go back to sleep.

No there is a Bee Gee song about More Than a Woman. The Billy Joel song you
quoted is called Always a Woman.

Well, actually, the song I was thinking of was called "More Than A Feeling"
by Boston, maybe --my aging boomer memory isn't sure.

OK, now I always thought that was Whitney Houston. Wasn't that song from
a movie she was in with... hmm... Harrison Ford, maybe? Kevin Costner? One
of those.

Originally written and sung by Dolly Parton, re-done most famously by
Whitney Houston in the Move "The Bodyguard" with Kevin Costner.

What I think the Net *really* needs is something analogous to the
IMDB, for music.

That would be GREAT!! As of this time, there are all sorts of sites
out there with information about different music - band/singer/performer
info, lyrics sites, tour itineraries, reviews, etc - but nothing
integrated, organized, and cross-referenced the way IMDb is. It would
be a lot of work (and I'm certainly not volunteering to do it :)), but
it would be such a wonderful resources. I certainly use the IMDb all
the time.

By the way, did you all know how IMDb got started? About 10-odd years
ago, a bunch of guys on one of the movie newsgroups were talking about
actresses they thought were hot. Pretty soon, a list was formed of the
most popular ones, and it became known as The List. Of course, new names
were added to The List as more people joined in the disucssion. Then
people started wondering what movies all these different hotties were
in, so folks who knew an actress's career would list all the movies they
knew she'd been in.

Eventually, actor's names were added, director's names, etc, with all
the films they were involved in, and the file got huge. For a while it
was archived on some FTP site and various mirror sites. In '96 or so,
the data got put into HTML format so it could be available to the newly
created website. All of this was done on a purely volunteer basis, and
visitors could add or change information if they saw errors, etc.

At some point, movie studios got interested in it and started making
more information available. After all, it only gave their films free
publicity. Since then, some company bought it, but I forget which. (AOL/
Time-Warner, maybe?) Now people are paid to keep up the site.

I'm sure I've left out a ton of details in this story, and that somebody
here can fill in what I've omitted. But I think it's pretty cool that a net
institution like IMDb got started because some h*rny guys were discussing
their favorite film babes. :)

That's very interesting about the origins of IMDb, From the style of the
site, and the links, it looks like it's run by amazon.com

Oh, you're right, you're right! Amazon bought it - maybe 4 or 5 years ago.
