I'd like to ask purrs for a celebrated dog, who is missing.

Bohem C'est La Vie, a whippet who won an Award of Merit in the Breed
competition at this week's Westminster Dog Show. But a funny thing
happened on her way home to California - she escaped from her travel
kennel at JFK airport Wednesday afternoon.
The airport grounds have been searched twice, she *was* seen in the
marshland area surrounding the airport, but no one was able to catch
her. A reward has been announced, and airport authorities will keep
their eyes peeled, but the search has been called off. And now cold
weather is moving back in.
So purrs for this dog to be safe, and end up safely home sometime
soon!

Thanks Jeanne. I've been very concerned about this dog. The poor thing
must be cold, hungry and very scared. I really, really pray this story
has a happy ending. vvvvvvvvvvvcc
I imagine a Greyhound that doesn't want to be caught, well, there's
just no way you could catch her.
I enjoyed that dog show so much. I was home alone and watched both
nights. It made me want another dog. I would sure like to have a German
Shephard or GS mix. I have awful luck with dogs; I guess I don't have
any business even thinking about it. My dog Happy was killed by a car,
and the one I got before that (Dottie) in 2000 died on the table when I
had her spayed.

I hate to think of that dog out in a New York winter. Let's
hope someone can get a hold of her soon.

I hadn't heard about this, I am surprised that my friend June hasn't phoned
to tell me. The international community of show whippet breeders are
usually aware of what's happening. What a tragedy. Sighthounds are
notoriously very difficult to catch if they escape and panic.
Champion Bohem C'est La Vie was bred by Bo Bengtson and I think she is now
owned by someone called Jill. I forget her last name.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Bo Bengtson on a few occasions and he has
judged my dogs twice in England.

Lots of purrs. Whippets have almost no subcutaneous fat, they feel the cold
terribly. That's why they have to be clothed in bad weather. I am very
afraid for this dog. If anyone hears anything would you update me on here
please?
Thanks

There are several articles (with more or less info) on various news
sites on the net. Here's the article I originally saw from Wednesday
on CNN.com:

The owners are Jill Walton and Paul Lepiane (who have offered a
reward), Ch. Bohem C'est La Vie answers to the name Vivi.

An article entitled "traveling with pets"
Traveling with pets
By Ali Reed, CBS 11 News Reporter
A canine champion whippet, named Vivi, made national news this week
when she got loose from baggage handlers while being loaded onto a
plane at New York's JFK Airport. Officials say she's still missing.
How could this happen and is it safe for you to fly with your
animals?
Most airlines allows pets on board. They allow small pets to be
carried on in the cabin, but larger ones must ride in the cargo
section. Here are some tips that they offer up to have your pet
airline ready.
Pets in cabin:
--Must use a USDA approved carrier
--Absorbent bedding on bottom to prevent leaks
--ID on both the pet and its carrier
Other requirements are having a valid health certificate licensed
by a veterinarian within 30 days of travel. And also having proof
your pet's had a rabies vaccination.
Vets say it's important to provide food and water in your carrier
if they're riding in cargo. They recommend putting ice cubes in a
dish for your pet to lick to stay hydrated during the flight.
And it's especially important to write your name and contact
information so that if your pet is displaced, you'll be able to
find it.
Gloria Clow, Vet Technician, Northern Lights Vet & Laser Center
“If you have any medical conditions with your pet, you do need to
include that on the kennel. If your pet was supposed to go. So, you
need to make sure your paperwork is on the outside of the kennel so
you can access that,” said Gloria Clow, Vet Technician, Northern
Lights Vet & Laser Center.
And airlines recommend booking direct flights when you travel with
your pets. It's easier on the animal that way and harder for it to
get lost.
Now, we did call Alaska Airlines, Delta, and Northwest -- three of
the major airlines that fly out of Alaska, to tell us their
responsibilities for carrying your pets, but they declined to
comment.

We've been sending purrs for this poor girl. No news reported yet.
It's really getting cold again, too. She must have been so scared
to be chased by not only strangers on foot, but by people in cars,
too. :( She's a beautiful dog and I loved seeing her on TV in the
dog show. Purrs for her to have many more shows, or at least to be
reunited with her hoomins.

It's very worrying that she still hasn't been found, continuing purrs.

I hope that people who are interested in the reward money aren't
playing with these people's emotions. This article shows that
someone says they spotted her. There are no other news articles
about this "tipster".

be in the teens here tonight, it's going to be frigid in NY. :(

The whippet, Vivi, has been sighted in Flushing, NY! She's traveled a
long distance. The owners are working with Karin Goin, a pet
detective. If you want the latest, go to www.awc2006.com and click on
Vivi on the right hand side. The owners usually update daily.

One of the best ways to lure a dog (or a cat) that strays from its
owner is to take some of the urine from the owner and "spot" it back to
the place you want the dog to return to. Sounds crazy, but it works.
I'm afraid this dog might be in big trouble if not found soon.
