My Unique Cat Condo

Since my kitties will be stuck inside the house after I finish moving and
until I get fencing installed, I wanted to make something special and new
for them.  It may be quite some time until my fence can be completed,
because of unexpected expenses with the house.

So anyhow I created a whole new cat condo design. The structure is a
completely different concept that I came up with by "thinking like a cat".
I've looked at virtually every cat condo product being sold and have seen
nothing close to what I have in mind.

This cat condo is not only a unique design in terms of shape and function
but also in the structure itself. It will be very light, yet extremely
sturdy and impossible for a cat to tip over. The weight issue was an
important one because I plan on making these and selling them to the public,
so shipping cost needs to be minimal. Also in terms of shipping the size of
the shipping box needs to be as small as possible, so the unit is designed
to ship in a disassembled state. Re-assembly takes just a few minutes and
requires no tools.

I had to create a way to make more money so I can afford needed renovations
on my house. I've had to upgrade the electric meter box and loop from 60
amps to 100 (cost was $325), and will need to upgrade some parts on the
propane tank. Also will have to remove the arric insulation (cellulose)
before killing the mold I found up there, then put in new insulation. A few
of the windows are terribly rotten and should be replaced ASAP. I'll also
need a new sewer line, the rain gutters on one side are missing and hence
the soffit/fascia is rotting on that side. The bathroom floors are squishy
and the whole house needs to either be scraped and painted or have new
siding put on.

On top of all the above (and the fence) I would like to enable basement
access from within the house (as it is, one must go outside to enter the
basement) as well as make a stairwell up to the attic instead of having to
crawl through a hole in the top of a closet.

What all this means is I've got to raise some money. So I thought, as long
as I'm making a kitty condo and have this great new design, might as well
make more of them to sell. I can use ebay and maybe some of you folks who
have websites will display them for me?

Of course I'll get some good pictures of the cats using the product. I might
also try selling them locally at craft fairs.

I just love making things and have always been good at it, but until now did
not have enough extra space to be doing something like this. I'm excited!!!

That sounds like a wonderful idea, Pat!! Very exciting! I especially like
the idea about 'thinking like a cat' and I hope it all goes well for you!!

Good luck purrs for your money making efforts. It sounds like your new house
is going to keep you busy for some time to come, bit I'm sure it will be
worth it.

Sounds like you should buy a different house from what you say about this one!!

It's kinda too late for that now, yes? Anyway this was one of the better
choices in my price range unless I wanted to settle for a much smaller
place.

First of all, good luck with your Kitty-Kondo sales!

Second - Do they not have home inspections where you are?  Here in IN they
are requred before a sale can be finalized.  They will state what needs to
be fixed by the current owner (dry rot and mold would be a couple of those
things) before the sale, and what will need to be fixed in the future by the
buyer (not always that strict).

Same here.  City codes will *require* that certain changes must be made
before a sale can be finalized (such as gas hot water heaters raised 18"
from the floor, correct procedure for gas lines running to outdoor grills,
grounded outlets, GFCI outlets for areas close to water, etc.  Other items
are optional with the buyer but must be listed on the home inspection.
Sellers are required to disclose known defects.

The mortage companies can be really picky. We sold a house last year,
and I thought it was in great shape. It was amazing how they nit-picked
and found things for us to fix. Most astonishing was that, underneath
the house, they said the level of the dirt was too close to the
foundation. We had to have it excavated! (or find another buyer). Said
it was a future termite risk.

This is a great idea, and I hope it will be a money maker, too!  Good
luck!
