John just called the animal shelter and they said Tessie's a fine
healthy kitten and she's ready to be picked up today... so when John
finishes work this afternoon he's gonig to drive on over to Coconut
Creek and bring her home :) Good thing I've been kitten-proofing the
craft room to get ready for her!
I know she's not really 'ours' because her owner still might show up
to claim her, or Scouty and Silver might refuse to integrate with her
and we'll have to give her to someone else, but I'm excited anyway...
the only thing I'm NOT looking forward to is all the hissing I can
expect from Silver for the next week or so!

You know, I wouldn't even try integrating them the first week. Just let them
hear her on the other side of the door. Rub them all down every day with the
same towel. Go slow. I'm sure this can work if you *just* have patience
because she is so young. She is really just adorable.

I wasn't planning on it... she's staying in the craftroom with the
door CLOSED for at least a week. Maybe even longer. We'll go in and
play with her and come out and try to play with the girls and see if
they get used to each other's smells that way and quit hissing.
I just kittenproofed the craftroom and swept the floor and plugged the
feliway diffuser into the wall. Should it be in the craftroom with the
kitten or out in the livingroom?

Probably out in the living room, so the kitties who are stressed can
mellow out a bit.

I had one in each room to calm all the cats. I will say that it was a subtle
effect but it did help and how I knew was that once I'd begun integrating
Pearl and Sugar and Grant, if they got MORE snarky, the Feliway diffusers
were low. Otherwise, you could also switch the diffuser back and forth. I
will be praying for you!

Congratulations on giving Tessie another chance. The hissing may last for
months, but don't give up, no harm will come from it.

Integration purrs. Steel yourself, and don't expect too much-- the
*hissing* will end.

Many integration purrs! As I said earlier, Silver and Scout will be
upset at first, just as children are upset when a new brother/sister
arrives or the sort of upset/stress you could expect if a friend moved
into your house to stay long-term. Over time, Tessie will "belong"
there and then Silver and Scout will get agitated if she is ever
absent.
(I remember, after two months of loudly expressing her hatred of
Smokey's guts, we took Smokey to the vet for his neutering and Nocturne
was walking around crying, pleading with us...she was lonely. She
wanted Smokey back. Once he returned, she sniffed him a few
times...and an hour later was back hissing at him when he got too close
;)
Also, when we went to get them at the kennel this year, we saw them
meatloafed on a shelf, facing one another, FAR CLOSER than they ever
sit in the apartment, even though the kennel had two rooms and multiple
shelves. That lasted for an entire week once we got them home ;)

It's not for us humans to try to understand the strange workings of
the feline mind.

Awww. The known horror was much better than the unknown, I'm sure! :)

Karen, just keep that Feliway going, it'll do some good soon. Good luck
on the integration. It will be hard at first, but I'm sure pretty
quickly they will be grooming each other.

Hooray! As others have said, it's going to take a while, so don't be
in a hurry. If they don't stop hissing in a week, maybe it'll take
two weeks, or longer.
She's such a cutie, I'm glad you decided to keep her! Looking forward
to new photos when you get a chance. :)

I'm so glad to hear Tessie is healthy! Now you can try slowly
integrating the kitties again and at the same time see if someone is
looking for Tessie.
Best wishes,

Good luck with the integration. Just take it slow, try to read their
body language, and have fun. :) Glad to hear she's in good health.

I would be surprised if someone turns up to claim her but it would be nice
if they did. It would solve your problem.
Lots of luck integrating her with your two. It can be done (say the wise
ones who have experience of this.) I don't have a clue how to integrate
cats into an already established household. My two met each other in the
garden regularly so when BF decided to move in, Kitty already knew him.

I hoped that someone would take her in... But you never know, they
might become friends. Heaven knows Silver, Scouty, and Tessie are
individually friendly. Whatever happens, it will be interesting, and
you're so good with photos, so it should be a treat. For us. :)

Take it slow. It only took a week for Miranda to accept Caliban, but it
might take longer. Miranda was just nine months old, an older cat might
take longer to accept a new one. Silver and Scout are fairly young,
aren't they? Also, I didn't sequester the cats, since there was no fur
flying, just bad words being exchanged. I let them work it out between
themselves. Anyway, integration purrs on the way.

Integration purrs on the way from here. Just don't push them together
too quickly (and I don't think you will)
