I recently saw Cat Greenies in this town, but thanks to what I've
learned here, I will certainly not be buying them for our crew.

A catsitting client of mine gave me a small bag of the feline Greenies
treat in December. Just about a month ago, I decided to see if my gang
would like them. I was a bit reluctant to give it to them, because of
the Diamond products recall, which had just basically given me the
willies about packaged animal treats. But I decided to try it anyway,
and my cats all liked them.
Then, the very next day (mid-January), I read the report about the dogs
dying from Greenies. (Not the exact one you're pointing to here, obviously,
but it was the same issue.) I was horrified, as you can imagine. Plus, I
was leaving for a two-week trip to Florida in two days! So I asked my
catsitters to make sure to pay attention in case anyone seemed sick or
in pain or under the weather in any way.
So you can imagine my panic when I got an email 3 days into my trip,
saying that the first 3 people who came to feed the cats could not get
Roxy to eat. I was ready to board the first plane home!!! I called
around frantically, trying to find someone to go to my house and take
her to the vet. But then I called the vet, and described the situation,
and they said that Roxy didn't seem sick from that description, and just
to keep an eye on her. And she *is* a finicky eater, probably more so
when strangers are coming and going.
Everyone who came (7 different friends in all) kept notes about Roxy's
progress, and I came home to 6 pages of notes they all were writing to
each other, about trying different things to get Roxy to eat. I'm sure
she ate once they left the house, since she didn't lose any weight while
I was gone. And it was fun to come home to 6 pages of notes among all
the cat sitters, telling each other what they did to try to get her to
eat (heat the food, try different flavors, move the food bowl around,
etc).
The Greenies went straight into the trash, of course!

This was a project! How amazing having seven collaborative petsitters
take six pages of notes trying to get one Roxy cat to eat.

Yes, she was quite the little troublemaker! :) The night I got home, I
sat on the couch to read the notes, while Roxy curled up in my arms and
purred ecstatically in my face. I would stop reading occasionally to
point my finger at her face (which she would sniff, of course), and tell
her that this was all about HER, the finicky brat. In spite of her
fussiness around food, though, she is the chubbiest of the bunch, so she
is obviously not starving to death!
