As you all know, our Border Collie puppy Kayla has been here for almost two
months now.

Jake and Molly have pretty much made their peace with her.  Molly will even
come and get Kayla to come outside and chase her.  I thought Kayla was
harassing the cat when I saw her chasing Molly across the backyard a few
days ago and called her off.  But after watching I realized Molly was having
an attack of the zoomies and not minding at all.  After a little bit she
took a dash past Kayla and all but said "tag, you're it!"    Molly actually
likes being chased as long as she knows she won't get hurt if she gets
caught.  And she knows Kayla won't hurt her.

Jake has been a harder sell.  The morning after Christmas, he decided to
state his position clearly.  After sitting on the back of the sofa and
considering his options, he attacked Kayla full force.  There was a great
deal of commotion that ended behind the recliner, and Kayla came out of the
huddle bleeding rather a lot but not yelping.  Once I caught up with her, I
found Jake had torn her ear.  About a quarter inch tear on the outside edge.
So I held onto her and held to towel to her ear till the bleeding stopped.
But since then dog and cat seem to have made their peace.  No more attacks
from either side and they can be in the same room.  Jake pretends not to
notice if Kayla steps on him or decides to sniff etc.

But today there was another breakthrough.  Kayla of course wants to get into
everything.  She sees the cats get up on the kitchen counter and knows it is
the source of really good food.  (I use cat kibble as a training snack)  And
she is quite capable of grabbing anything that isn't all the way on the
counter.  But a while ago I saw her on her rug happily eating a carrot.  I
knew they'd been well on the counter and thought they were safe.

Then I found out.  Jake had been getting up on the counter and knocking them
off for her!

I think we may be in very big trouble here.

Oh man.  I think so too.  Keep an eye out for opposable thumbs.

That's hilarious!  And yes, you are in big trouble.  When Dennis was a
kid, he had a cat and a dog.  The cat would bat the glass balls off the
xmas tree, and then the dog would crunch on them.  Teamwork!  But very,
very bad...
