WIllie just showed up after being missing for a day - behavior totally
out of character since he doesn't wander. He's dreadfully thirsty,
which confirms my supposition (and hope) that he had gotten himself
locked in a garage. The refrain from "Little Willy" has been running
through my head for 24hrs (with little sleep), "Little Willy Willy won't
Come home". Here, in an urban Tampa setting, Willie has only worried me
by occasionally visiting the condos across the street, tho he seems to
understand the danger. My neighbor was very impressed with Willie -
watching him one morning. Willie walked to the edge of the burm, sat for
a minute and looked both ways before strolling across. He's never seen
a cat do that before, nor have I though I still don't like it. In rural
PA Willie enjoys looking after his turf, his first day after coming from
the pound is the only other time he's been gone past mealtime, let alone
overnight. I felt then, as now, he was too astute to leave his food
source and sure enough, he showed up the next morning, happy and
talkative about his freedom after being in the pound for a year. But,
Willie, don't you do it again. Norm

Yes, whew indeed. If I lived in urban Tampa (or urban anywhere, for that
matter) I would certainly not be letting a kitty go outside. He may have
appeared to look both ways before crossing the street, it could have been
that he was just looking and strolling around, but even if he is that
streetwise, many a streetwise cat forgets to think about traffic when
chasing a squirrel or something. I've lost five precious kitties to
automobiles. Two of the incidents happened when I was a young child. If you
have children who are attached to Willie, imagine how they will feel if he
is killed in the street!
