Just got back with Frank from TED's, and he headed straight for the
food! YAY! The Power of Purr works its wonders again! Thank you all so
very, very much for being here for me. I was quite sure, both on
Saturday when I went to the vet school and today when I went to TED's,
that Frank would never be coming home again.
Guess what was the matter? An infection in the root canal of his lower
right-hand fang! And the vet at the vet school didn't spot it! And
they're supposed to be a teaching hospital. Grrr. OK, Frank's own vet
was helped by the fact that, just as she was looking at his mouth (which
was obviously not so sore any more, because he allowed her to handel his
jaw), some pus squirted on her hand from the abscess in his jaw. So,
poor Frank was sedated again, he had some dental work, an infusion, and
a shot of antibiotics, and tomorrow and ten days on I get to pill him.
Yay - not.
He'll have to have the fang surgically removed after the course of
antibiotics is over. The bad news is, he'll have to go to the vet school
hospital for that. Grrr. I'd rather never again take one of my cats to
that place, but it's the only place within a reasonable distance where
they have the equipment to do it (taking into consideration that I don't
have a car).
But he's home, he seems much perkier already, and he ate! That's good
enough for now.

Been away for most of the weekend, so I missed this. No wonder Waffles has been
out hunting loads of mousies from the garden - she is obviously going to
teleport all this medicinal stuff over to her beloved Frank.
Here's hoping that when the fang has to be removed, Frank is back to his old
God of Lurrrve self again.
I have instructed Waffles that no, she may not have Frank's fang to hang on a
necklet as a keepsake...
Give him some gentle earscritches from me. If he disappears for an hour or so,
you know he's just teleported over here for some TLC from a certain cat ;-)

We'll see about the fang... ;o) After eating nearly non-stop for an hour
(!!), he did disappear into a black hole for awhile, so I suspect he has
been enjoying some quality TLC from his favourite lady cat. Earscritches
duly added at this end (and yes, he lets me touch him now).

Glad to hear he's eating, and back to accepting Meowmie luvin. I
imagine getting rid of some of the pus has reduced the swelling and
made him feel better.

Well, I'm not sure I didn't cause some of it - I may well have hit the
fang with the dropper or a finger whil administering the oil, but of
course, the infection must have been there longer.

Marina, thank goodness he's OK, and now you can quit feeling guilty about
the possibility that you hurt him (I *knew* you didn't, but I also know how
that feels - I once accidentally slammed Sammy in a door when she tried to
rush outside just as I was coming in, thank goodness she wasn't hurt and
from then on she's been *very* careful about getting out of the way of
shutting doors, but I can still start myself crying even thinking about it).
The tooth probably even had something to do with him being constipated - he
probably quit eating and drinking in his normal pattern. Even a slight
decrease in eating or drinking can cause havoc in their little bodies.
Anyway, purrs are continuing that he'll let you pill him, that the
antibiotics will work quickly, and that his surgery goes well.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that Nikki's course of antibiotics ended
today. I was prescribed penicillin last week for - tada! - an infected
tooth. Now I have to start Frank on his tomorrow. We're a miserable

Adding purrs for your sore tooth - and tell Nikk - firmly - that
getting meds for chin acne counts, she does NOT need to develope any
dental problem to fit in.

well, it's a relief in a way for your own peace of mind after what you
thought happened. But it's still poor Franki, you know? I can just
imagine what an abcessed tooth must feel like. Glad to hear it will be
taken care of soon. Poor little guy, I think when you held his jaw to
give him the drops the abscess must have been disturbed. At least it
wqas a way to find out that he did have that bad tooth, so that's for
the best at least. We will purr and pray that Franki doesn't suffer any
aftereffects from the tooth being pulled. He will feel much better after
that. We want to send our best kisses and hugs.

Oh, I know exactly how it feels, since I have just gone through three
root canal treatments myself, and one is refusing to heal properly, and
now I have to take a course of antibiotics for it.
A little while ago, he came and sat beside my chair as I was watching
TV. I got up and he followed me around. Finally, I dared to pick him up,
and instead of struggling to get away, he cuddled up to me and started
purring. I sat down with him and he stayed in my arms for a long time,
purring all the time, and gently headbutting me. This from the same cat
who, just a few hours ago, slunk away and gave me the evil eye whenever
I tried to approach. I just hope he will still feel as good when the
pain killers wear off, but he did seem less sore even before the vet
gave them to him.
At least we know what it is, and it's something treatable. I only need
to keep his energy intake sufficient while his mouth heals. TED gave me
a nutrition paste to give him if he stops eating again (he hasn't
stopped yet - he must have eaten nearly a whole tin since we got home).

My vet says that having the right equipment for tooth extraction is the
biggest part of making that a safe job. So it's really a good thing.

Glad to hear the problem was easier to diagnose today, and sending
purrs that he won't hate you TOO much for the extra pills.
I wonder if the vet school TED was put off by the fact that it was so
obviously painful, what with his growling even while under sedation.
Wouldn't think so, since that would seem to indicate the importance of
finding out what was causing the pain. Anyway, glad the regular TED
found it and now there's a plan to get Frank the treatment he needs.

infection.
So further purrs for efficient treatment & quick recovery.

This *is* good news! Except for the extra meds. ;-)
Now you know what ails your boy and what to do about it, and he's
