I posted 2 pics of Kenzie on alt.binaries.pictures.animals. One is quite
a nice picture; I wish it scanned better, though.

I saw them.  She's a very beautifully colored calico.  We used
to call that coloration a "money cat".  I never knew why.

Thank you Hmm,,, I've never heard of that expression, nor seen it on the
'net before.

Perhaps it's a very local nickname that spread only in your immediate
area(?) Interesting, nonetheless.

No, I've heard it, too. Not very recently, though.

When I was growing up in New England in the 50's, 60's we had generations of
calico's, they were called money cats also.  Don't know why, they just were.

Haven't seen the photos as I don't get binary groups.  But as I vaguely
recall a "money cat" is one who has patches of gold on its fur.  ie a
calico.

I have no idea where I'm remembering that from but I did have a grandmother
who knew every superstition and mountain folklore tale there was.

Interesting, and certainly makes sense. I would bet this nomenclature
has simply mostly died out, as fewer and fewer people receive this
folklore from prior generations.

Thank you for the explanation.

Your cat is beautiful.  The markings are lovely.

Hi,

I can't get this newsgroup - would you mind emailing the pics to me?
Send it to this address (ie, the one I'm posting from), but be sure to
remove the X's or it will bounce.

I think Kenzie has the most adorable face - I love her muzzle,
which looks to me like two white, fuzzy balls on either side of her
nose. Very cute. I'd love to see recent photos of her.

Thanks!
Joyce
