I don't know how many of you lurk in rec.pets.cats.community, but back
in December I started a thread about Capt. Midnight, The Good Luck
Black Cat, taking ill the last weekend before Kissamouse.  Given the
symptoms and his uncharacteristic lethargy, we suspected an intestinal
blockage, but it turned out to be much worse (cancer).  Here's the post
I'd made to rpcc that should explain everything:

Capt. Midnight, The Good Luck Black Cat, left for the Rainbow Bridge at
approximately 10:45 AM today [Dec. 20, 2005].  His problem was not
fixable, so the vet did not wake him up from the anesthesia.

We've arranged for a private cremation, and when the ashes come back we
will scatter them in his favorite pile of dirt and at the edge of the
back patio.

----------

**A glowing light descends onto the sleeping black cat. Suddenly, he
wakes up.  "I'm coming, Hobbes!  I'm coming!" he meows softly as he
rises up into the light.

The large black cat finds himself sitting in the middle of a place full
of beautiful colors.  He says to himself, "I must be at the Rainbow
Bridge."  He looks around and hears a familiar
meow calling him.  "Midnight, come up here!"  It's his winkwink Hobbes.
She says, "It's really nice here, and you already know a lot of the
kitties!"

Midnight runs up to Hobbes and licks her face.  He says, "Now we will
never be apart again."  Hobbes and Midnight stroll away together for a
good smurgle, and make plans to meet the rest of the kitties at the
rainbow bridge.**

We will light a candle for Capt Midnight's safe journey to the RB. He will
be happy there. Condolences to everyone he made happy during his life.

Thank you.  His ashes came back just after New Year's, but my mom
hasn't decided if she wants to scatter them yet.

Our sincerest condolences. I have Frank's ashes in my closet (away from
the kittens), and every day when I take out a blouse to wear that day, I
give his urn a stroke. It's strangely comforting, but nevertheless, I
will scatter his ashes on the island come summer. I want him and Nikki
to be together.

Thanks, Helen.  I have very fond memories of him and Waffles trying to
go hunting together on the mailing list (though he was too lazy to
catch anything).  :-)

I'm so sorry.  Purrs for those hurting, and for Midnight's new home at
the Bridge to be wonderful.

Very sorry to hear of Captain Midnight's passing, Debbie.  But I'm glad
he's got Hobbes' company on the far side of the Rainbow Bridge. Much
better that he had a gentle passage out of life.

Purrs a plenty for Captain Midnight, who sounds like he was a dashing
fellow; and for your recovery and catloving heart.

I love the story of The Captain meeting his friend across the border. It
makes me think of two old buddies just going into retirement, spending the
day fishing until the family comes along. I think I'd have liked The
Captain. I think he'll be popular up there!

Blessed be,
Baha

Thanks, Baha.  My mom wrote it.  It seemed fitting for the Capt. to
meet his wife-kitty up at The Bridge.  They were "winkwinked" for just
over seven years, and went within a year of each other.
