Tak, how is Betty doing these days?  When is her next treatment?  Has the
last treatment had lasting effects?

Thank you for asking.  Our popular lurker Paulette has been asking me
the same thing. :)  Betty is still doing fine, as lively and healthy
as ever.

I haven't been checking in as often these days, and haven't been
reporting on her oncologist visits because they're becoming pretty
routine.  She had a treatment two weeks ago, and they've also
increased her chemotherapy dose per treatment.  Her next treatment is
next Tuesday.  It'll be her eighth, no sorry, ninth treatment.  So far
she's had three radiation treatments, two Carboplatin treatments, and
three Gemzar treatments.

It's been a pitched battle over this postage stamp sized area of jaw.
I think that ultimately the outcome of this kind of cancer is
determined by the patient.  It won't kill Betty outright, but there
will be a point when it'll just be too difficult to eat, too hard to
breathe, too painful to live, and she'll give up on me no matter what
I try.

But that time isn't now!  Betty has a zest for life, and is tougher
than expected, an iron paw underneath a velvet mitten.  I sense from
her that she wants things between us to be the way they are, forever.
That wish has been my absolute command.

Right now she's in my lap being extra cuddly, headbutting and waving a
paw at my face.  When you have someone you really love, every extra
day like this is really worth it.  What's a week on a honeymoon in
Paris or Hawaii worth to someone?  That's something like what a week
with Betty is worth to me.

Honestly Tak, I wish you'd write a book. You are so good at inspiring.
Or at least in communicating how Betty inspires and you love.

I don't know about writing a book, as the only guaranteed readers
would perhaps be you and my mom. :)  But I guess that I do find Betty
inspiring.  Actually, I admire her as a purrson.  Kitties are such
easy creatures to admire.

Tweed said before about Boyfriend that she was "a bit taken by him".
I think we can all relate to that!

I think she might have meant that she likes the way you write. You
really do have a lovely way with words. "An iron paw underneath a velvet
mitten" - what a great phrase.

> Kitties are such easy creatures to admire.

This is certainly true!

I think you would have many, many readers, your love for Betty shines
through with every post. Most of us here love a cat just as much.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one. :)

You should keep a diary or journal and write down your thoughts and feelings
about Betty. It would make a wonderful story about your love for her.
The love can  be felt in every post you make about her and how you discribe
your interaction with her.

Weelll, I'm no Anne Frank.  But a day with a cat is always an
interesting day, even a day worth reflecting on.

Thank you everyone.  I only knew that I've told you that I love Betty
very much.  I knew that people could absorb that on a factual level.
But everyone understands how I feel too, maybe because you've been
there before.

It's hard to explain, but when you have a being that depends on you
even more than just for food, shelter and water, but for their
health, a bond forms between both beings. I had this bond with
Shadow. I had the bond with Marley, too, but his illness progressed
so quickly that there wasn't the long-term care/trust that Shadow
and I had. With Shadow, he was always the type of cat who didn't
want anything done for him. Feed him and he was fine. When he got
sick and he needed meds and care, he hated it. I hated it. But I
would do anything for that cat. I really believe that he understood
that the meds and even the feeding tube was because I loved him. He
just didn't fight what I had to do for him any more. He sure
resisted in the beginning. Reading over this, it looks like
rambling. But I can't change it to make it make sense any more than
this. I guess I just want to say I understand.

I don't know if Betty and I have reached this level yet.  I hide her
meds in her food, and whisk her off every few weeks for therapy.  So
she hasn't experienced much of me actually doing things to her.  I'm
not sure she's aware yet that we're facing an illness.  That's
beginning to change though.

That was an English understatement, we are famous for it.  What I really
meant is that I am *very* taken by him and he is the most wonderful cat in
the whole world ;-)

You do have a wonderful way with words, though, Tak.  I am often very
touched by your posts.

I'm *SO* glad to hear she's doing well.  We're purring gangbusters that you
have each other for a long, long time yet.

You have such a beautiful way with words, you capture exactly the
relationship we have with our furry masters!

That last past especially needed a TW warning. Thankyou for those warm
