Brief question: anyone try this dry food and find their cats unusually
thirsty?

Long story: We were out of town Friday evening, getting back Sunday at
noon.  Rather than pestering my neighbor about feeding Oscar, I bought
a bag of Evo.  Oscar has never had this food; normal dry food makes
her tummy gurgle, but I thought this low-carb food would be better for
her, and it was only for a few meals.

My neighbor still had a key and said she'd check in, but she had a
death in the family last week, so I didn't necessarily expect she
would.

When I got home Sunday at noon, Oscar's water bowl was empty.  Oscar
doesn't usually empty a water bowl in a week.  I wondered if maybe I'd
neglected to fill it before I left.

Well, I just spoke to my neighbor, and she reported that Oscar's water
bowl was empty Sunday morning!  She filled it.  So Oscar actually
drank quite a bit of water Saturday, and apparently polished off a
whole bowl of water in under 6 hours on Sunday.  There was no sign of
splashing.

Since we've been back and she's back on canned food, the water
consumption has cut back to its usual slow rate.

I wouldn't necessarily think it's the Evo, but more likely that it's
dry. If she normally eats canned, that'd explain it. Maybe she ran
out of water before Sunday morning and was just really thirsty, and
maybe your neighbor didn't fill it up as in a "whole bowl". Another
thing that crosses my mind is that maybe she had the runs from the
food switch; that would have made her thirsty, too. I'm glad your
neighbor was able to stop by.

I cleaned the litter box; no runs.

I am very sure that she drank an exceptional amount of water.  This is
a very big bowl, and even a small amount would last several days
normally.

And she ate dry for years before switching to canned just over a year
ago ... and never drank this much water.  So maybe it's just the dry
food, but I don't think so.

I think it's just that she's been on wet food and then suddenly switched
to dry.  I'm sure all dry food would have had the same effect.  They get
a lot of water from canned, so that was missing.

Just casually keep and eye on her water consumption and her weight
if you can.
