I've noticed something about her that makes me wonder, are cats and dogs
predominently either right or left pawed? When Persia wants to tap me or
just stretch out a paw to touch me it's always with her right paw. *Always*
Have you noticed such behavior with your furr-balls?
(Yes, I'm still awake. Trying to sleep tonight is futile.)

Yes, I have asked the group this question some years ago because my Hugo
Katt was absolutely left pawed. No doubt about it.
I only got silly answers then about being south pawed (left handed boxer)
or having left handed girl friend and other half trolly things.
I would also very much like serious answers to this question, are your
cats left pawed or right pawed?

I have read before, where cats and dogs (and I'm assuming other animals as
well) can be right or left sided (pawed, hooved, taloned?) just the same as
humans. Don't remember where I read it - probably in some book geared
towards us leftys :)

Nico seems to be ambidextrous (that's "both-pawed", right?), but he
prefers to do it laying on his back and grabbing you with at least both
front paws, preferrably bunny-kicking the sole of your slipper with both
back paws too. He doesn't grab you hard, even tho he uses his claws, and
even the kicking doesn't hurt - he's just "walking the walk" of a tough
boy, but really is a considerate little guy.
Of Laku I'm not that sure. He's not such a grabbing, pawing kinda
fellow. When Laku and Nico wrestle amongst each other, they tend to use
all paws at once, so you can't really distinguish any favouring of one
or another. And now they're both snoozing and didn't quite appreciate my
efforts to find out about their dexterity.

Absolutely. So much so that when we have had cabinet opening thieves we
only have to put baby lock on one side.

Kumani is pretty ambidextrous, but now that I think about it, Smokey
always starts swatting with his right paw before switching to the left
one.
I'm not sure about Nox, though I know she would LIKE to be though of as
favouring "paw Sinister."

But would she stoop to being "gauche"? :)

I haven't noticed a bias with my two cats, but my dogs were definitely
either right or left pawed. Most of them were right pawed and could open a
door hung on the left easily, pulling it towards them to get out or gain
entry to something norty like one side of a food cupboard.
A couple were left pawed. They opened the doors that were right side hung
and the other side of the food cupboard ;-) I didn't have a chance.
