badwilson - 05 Jan 2006 05:02 GMT Finally we completed buying that lot in Australia. Whew! It has just taken forever and with Dennis being away, I had to do all the paperwork. It all involved countless emails, faxes and phone calls. The money transfer was a nightmare, I was so stressed between Christmas and New Year, I've got a huge outbreak of psoriasis. Hopefully that will clear up now that it's a done deal. Dennis was supposed to be home yesterday, but he's been asked to extend, so now he won't be home until the 14th :-( Couldn't say no to all that overtime pay though. Oh well, at least it's a done deal and I feel proud of myself that I got it all done by myself. I am more than just an expat wife ;-) Huge celebration when Dennis gets home!

Getting desperate to get out of here so I'm working on a plan to get over there at the very beginning of April, rather than the end. Cant' wait!

It's weird, I used to get it in college and also when working but then it went away for the whole time we've been living in Thailand. Not hard to imagine, I haven't been doing anything, so I had no stress! I hope it calms down , but won't hold my breath because the next step is to organize the movers and ship our stuff. Plenty stressful situation. Oh well, at least it's only on my hairline and under my chin.

Our real estate agent emailed his congrats for owning a chunk of dirt. Hmmm, it's not dirt, it's our future estate ;-) We plan to leave it all to the cats! Well, when we got married in Australia 10 years ago, we did say we want to move there one day. It's great seeing such a long term plan come together.

Whew! > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > Joyce Thanks Joyce :-) If Dennis keeps getting his tours extended like this, we'll be able to build the house in no time, with all that extra money rolling in. But at some point you have to ask yourself how much seperation is acceptable before it starts to ruin your quality of life, etc. I definitely don't want him extending on every tour. We need to be together more than we're apart, or else it seems more like visits rather than a marriage.

Most of the guys in the company fly in from Canada every 6 weeks, so Dennis is way ahead of the game in the travelling aspect. His job now has 4 week tours instead of the usual 6, which we really like. But who knows how long that will last. There is really no end in sight for this routine until he retires. Maybe he can cut back some and do less tours in 10 years or so. We'll have to see.

I do hope that at least this step will make the time Dennis has to spend away a bit easier on you. It should feel more like being home than being on the edge of nowhere waiting.
So, are you going to be looking into work in the wine industry once you get settled?
Jo

But I always felt quite restricted. The heat made it impossible to do many outdoor things, the language barrier was annoying, the traffic was insane and then the snakes and rats in the house kind of put me over the edge ;-) But it will be a nice feeling to get settled because we always knew that we wouldn't be staying here forever. We do plan to stay there forever. I am definitely going to take some wine courses and want to get working in the wineries ASAP.

I'm confused, when I upload pictures to Webshots I just log on to my account. I don't use an uploading program, I didn't know there was one.

You open it on your desktop and if you're online, you can log in to webshots and see all your albums and edit them, make new albums, upload more pics. It was really great. I guess I'll either just do without or go and look for it again. It's just finding an hour or 2 to download a large file with my slow connection, that's the main problem.

Is it the program that lets you upload many pics at the same time? If you access webshots through your browser, you can only upload one picture at a time, one of its more annoying features (to me). Ah well, my webnv b bn (sorry, Caliban had something he absolutely had to get off his chest - by jumping up on my chest) webshots account is full, so I went back to using Yahoo; they now offer unlimited disk space. But then, you can't view the full-size image on Yahoo any more. Maybe someday I'll get one of those round tuits and look through my webshots albums and remove some pics to free up space there.

Yes, that's exactly what it was. You could upload your entire album at the same time. It was very handy. I'm sure it's still there for dowload, I'll have to do it one day. I still have lots of room on webshots. It's too bad about the pics on yahoo being so small. That's why I try to use webshots. Mind you, all of my Vino pics are on yahoo and my connection is too slow to bother moving them over to webshots.

We'll definitely have broadband in the house we rent as that will be very close to town. Our lot is 8km from the center of town and we have not been able to find out if broadband goes out there. The phone and electric cables are underground. In any case, I hope that by the time our house is finished (probably almost 3 years), they will have broadband there too.
