OT purrs needed

I am too tired to go into huge detail, but Mom was really upset tonight. I
guess numerous boys have been roaming the neighborhood and causing small,
malicious destruction. The hub seems to be our wierd next door neighbors.
She is going to the police tomorrow (mom hates "calling"; always has) to
report it and demand them to patrol the neighborhood more. But she is really
distraught over this. I'm worried too. She told the neighbors that she was
going to the police. The mother was like "it isn't my boys" but it's very
strange over there and she has some other people with kids living with her
too and oh, the one girl knew where all these different boys lived (I told
her they were trying to distract her, but if they happen to know all this,
they know a lot and I told her to tell the police that too.) At any rate,
purrs and prayers for calm and protection for my mom would be highly
appreciated if anyone is reading this. Man, people just really suck
sometimes.

Sorry to hear that your Mom has to put up with this kind of thing.
Sending purrs that the police will agree to do a little extra
patrolling in the neighborhood.

Your mom is doing the right thing by going to the police in person.
If she's able to convince any of her neighbors to do the same, she's
likely to get faster action.

Of course, purrs are on the way.

Karen, how about you surrepticiously call the police on your mom's behalf? She
doesn't have to know. Maybe a call from you explaining how distraught she is,
and explaining that it takes a whole lot for her to actually turn them in to
the cops. You're nice, and you're articulate, and they'll immediately recognize
that you are genuinely concerned for your mom AND That there's a reason to be
concerned.
Juvenile delinquent kids are the WORST to have on your block. Then if they mad
at you, it's tons worse. And there's not much you can do, all the police will
do is go talk to the parents.  We actually had them egg our truck, put a dead
mouse in our mailbox,  spray paint FAG on our garage doors! (Obviously the
juvvies needed a dictionary I don't think they knew what that meant).
The living situation, with different people not related to each other living in
the same house is *exactly* like our deal was too.
PURR PURR PURR for your mom.

She is going to take my sister with her. I hope that helps. We'll see if
they take it seriously first. If they don't I will call. If they would just
increase patrolling I'm sure it would help. This has been fairly recent
activity, so I think nipping it in the bud would be easier than if it is let
go. It's really the first time in 40 years any such thing has happened. I'll
let everyone know what happens.

Karen,

I don't know where you Mom lives but maybe the thing to do instead of
just dropping by the police station is finding out who the sergent or
lieutenant is for you Mom's area and contact them directly.  Either make
an appointment to see them or call them on the phone.  It has been my
experience that talking to the people at the front desk of your average
police department does little good.  It isn't that the people manning
the desk are bad or anything but they have a lot to deal with.  The
sergeant and/or lieutenant on the other hand are usually assigned to a
certain area of a city and know it very well.  They have a vested
interest in gathering information about potential trouble spots and can
directly influence extra patrols.

Good Luck!

If you saw my update, the station was closed for the weekend. I kind of
wonder if they have "lieutenants in charge" of certain areas. They have a
number you can call. She said she will try that tomorrow. Rapid is a bit
small, but I didn't think it was THAT small.

What I thought when I saw the update about the station being closed is
program that they tried here for a while. There for a while, in an
effort to make more of a police presence in troubled neighborhoods, we
had some part-time stations which weren't manned all the time. We're
not a big town (Lawton Oklahoma), and really only have the one
station. What they did was establish sort of an out post with a
supervisor, and couple cars to patrol the troubled area. There wasn't
any holding area for prisoners or anything. IIRC, they weren't even in
buildings owned by the city, just businesses that agreed to let them
have a room. Don't really remember for sure, as I think the experiment
ended a couple years ago - more because of the economy and supervisors
being cut than because it didn't work.

Is it possible for your mother to take pictures of the boys and the
result their deeds?    That would carry a lot of weight in filing a
complaint.    Also, does her city/town have laws pertaining to how many
"families" can live in a house?       Best wishes for your mother's safety
and wellbeing.   MLB

No, I can't see her doing that. My mom is not "camera friendly" for the most
part. I don't know about the other. Would be interesting to know, but I
really doubt they do.

We used to have members of a neighborhood gang, climb the fence behind
our house to go on their crime sprees.  They were the reason the people
who had our house sold it to us.  The kids cured them of their desire to
jump the fence.  One day they were out side playing with boffer swords
(foam padded PVC pipe) and a couple of gang members jumped the fence (8
feet tall) and landed without seeing the kids.  The gang bangers were
chased out of the yard by four screaming kids waving boffer swords.
They haven't been back.

I suspect that, when the gang members told the rest of their gang why
they weren't going to take that route any more, your kids were
described as considerably larger and better-armed than they really
were, so that the ones who got chased could save face.
