Hi all!  I've been lurking here on and off for several years and just have
never gotten around to saying hello.  You probably won't see me post too
much since I'm generally quite lazy and it takes forever just to read all
the posts! :)  However be assured that the owners do offer purrs for all in
need.

Gossamer is a 9yo DSH who adopted me when I was in the midst of getting
divorced and only a couple of weeks after moving in to my new apartment.  A
friend and I had gone to a local pet store to acquire a small goldfish
set-up for her daughter.  A woman came in with a tiny ball of gray fuzz with
huge ears & told the owner that she had found this stray kitten and couldn't
keep it.
It was pretty much all over at that point.  Hands automatically reach for
small fuzzy creature, small fuzzy creature with extremely sharp claws climbs
up my chest and establishes itself under my hair across the back of my neck.
OK, so I guess I need a litter box, a collar and some kitten food.  I seen
to have obtained my very first cat.  She was a complete angel for her first
vet visit and she was pronounced a healthy 8 week old female kitten weighing
in at less than one pound.
A fine tangle of cobwebs she was and was so named.

About a year later I attended the 16th birthday party of a friend's niece
(funny I could have sworn said niece was just 5 a couple years ago....) and
their cat had just recently given birth to a litter of kittens who now
needed homes.  Biting my tongue about irresponsible pet owners, I protest
that I don't need another cat and my spoiled rotten princess will NOT be
happy if I should succumb to the incredible cuteness of 3 week old kittens.
Oh look, the only male in the litter is sporting a debonair tuxedo.
Two weeks later, irresponsible pet owner has had enough and wants all
kittens removed from house or they will be tossed outside.  <insert nasty
comments about the jerk here>  All kittens get found homes quickly and I end
up with the tiniest little tuxedo I've ever seen.  I've been informed that
he was the first to use the litterbox on his own and the first to drink from
a saucer.  KMR and kitten food, a bit of blanket in a small box and a NOT
HAPPY spoiled princess.
I have a new butler.  His name, of course, is Jeeves.

Gossamer did not purr for me for one full year after I brought the
interloper home.  She still does not really care for him but they get along
peacefully most of the time.

And from the tiniest of beginnings, I have raised monsters.  My sister has,
past and present with just one exception, normal sized cats in the 6-10 lb
range.
Gossamer weighs in at 16 lbs no matter what kind of diet we put her on.
Jeeves, who has actually lost a few pounds on the various diets, weighs in
at around 20 lbs.   And no sign of Maine Coon blood anywhere :)  Jeeves is
fathered by pure moggie tomcat and is just built solid.  Gossamer, while
admittedly over-fluffy, will also never be a petite girl.

It's a bit strange to say "welcome to the group" to someone who's been
with the group for years, albeit as a "silent partner"... But welcome to
the group anyway!!  :)

Both your pic links worked for me, one was into the folder and the
second to the main page. Your owners look beautiful!

Hubby Janne and myself are sharing quarters with Laku, a solid black DSH
as you call them, a moggie as we do... :) The word "laku" is the
colloquial version for licorice in Finnish. Laku was named by the hoomin
servant of his mum, who also is a colleague of mine. Laku is 4 years 4
months old and is our only furry master, as well as our first cat, I've
had d*gs earlier and so has hubby, but no cats. Pics can be seen via the
link in my sig, go to the folder called Laku for pics of him, the other
folders are just of hoomins and nature and such...

Always glad to hear from a long time lurker ;-) You have a couple
great looking owners. The fifth pic, the closeup of Jeeves, reminds me
of what I woke up to recently. Sammy had crawled up on my chest as I
was napping in the recliner, and I woke up to find her about two
inches from my nose - I think I could I have been snoring and she came
to investigate. LOL

No, she thought Steve was purring and came to investigate.

I guess it's hard to predict whether a cat will take to a new kitten
or not.  Both your owners are very cute.  Jeeves has very interesting
facial markings, with the whole lower part of his muzzle white.  He
looks like a field mouse or a great white shark wearing a mask.  Very
debonair.

Hi Elise,

Welcome to the newsgroup! I hope you'll find the energy to post more
stories about your two beauties. It's always great when another good
writer joins in!

I was particularly struck by the second photo, the "Gossamer portrait".
She's so *gray* that the photo almost looks black-and-white, except for
her gold eyes and dark pink nose. Nice effect!

Awwwwww! Gossamer looks just like a female Shmogg, and Shmogg is a big boy
too! Judging by comparitive Baby weight, Cary started feeling heavier than
Shmogg once he hit the 7kg mark, which means that Shmogg is definately more
than 6kg but slightly less than 7kg, so I'd say he's roughly 15 pounds, and
was even heavier in his youth!

What a lovely story.  Sometimes you just get chosen by your kitties
and it's a wise human who knows enough to accept her fate.  Wish you
had more time to join in the discussion -- we can always use another
member of the group who writes about her kitties with love in her
heart.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

Singh - 26 Sep 2004 01:46 GMT
Welcome to the cat house! :-)

I have three tuxies, because I'm a sucker for formalwear. My Stosh is like your
Jeeves, a behemoth in a tux; however, someone like Jeeves must have proper
manners, after all he did have to work for Bertie Wooster... Stosh acts more
like a drunken fratboy with an indiscriminate appetite, and has become one big
hunk of cat. My Roxie is daintier, decidedly slimmer and more athletic. Seh is
our fashion model, and struts her stuff in her designer tux. Brandy, our newest
baby, is the most flamboyant as her tux is a wavy brown and black pattern that
reminds me of those fottball team pants that were so popular a few years back
with team colors in bizarre stripes. Her little jacket is butoned down neatly,
and her shirt front and cuffs are impeccable. But she is our little tomboy, full
of devilment and wants to wrestle and get into everything.

I hope you'll hang around. Nice to meet you!

Blessed be,
Baha
