Well, we're home from our road trip and went to get our four at the
kennel where they've been the past eight days.
Kumani was shy and Tyche had lots of hisses and swear words for the
staff, but at the LAST kennel they were so bad they had to have their
whole suite hidden under drapes 24/7. This time they were in a huge
suite with Nox and having her there seemed to help them.
As for Nox, well, when we walked in she was curled up in a meatloaf...
...RIGHT NEXT TO SMOKEY.
Apparently not only has Smokey been goodboy, but all four were better
behaved and happier to have all four in the same suite! Smokey had
been booked for his own kennel and was allowed supervised playtime with
the girls, but after a few days the door between their adjacent suites
was just left open because all four were inseperable.
So yeah, aliens took my cat. I think they took Smokey. Apparently he
was the first one out into the outdoor enclosure...It might be that
with wire between him and THE OUTSIDE he felt safe but...that just
isn't our Pokey smokey.
Nocturne isn't a pod-puddy. She was pulling her usual speil of utterly
ignoring us in the presence of the kennel staff ("I don't care about
you idiots, why should I be pleased to see you?" *turns to face wall*)
and clinging, crying and incessantly bunting once in the car.
But this Nox-Smokey love thing is JUST BIZARRE.

They can squabble all they like at home, but put them in a strange
situation, and suddenly they have to stick together, against a common
threat.
It will be interesting to see how long the new love match will last.

Ok, there's limits on it. Smokey tried to lick her last night and she
smacked him in the face. But today, she was enthroned on the chair
back and allowed him to nest on the chair surface proper...
How bizarre, how bizarre.

Mellowing? Dare we think it? Whither then the Evil Empire?
Perhaps she's just too busy plotting to bother with the prosaic
task of slapping Smokey down right now.

Oscar stayed home and was cared for by our neighbor. I'm sure this is
best for Oscar, who hates new situations and other cats, but it still
means she went without much attention for over a week. (Not because
my neighbor doesn't like her, but because Oscar doesn't let just
anyone pet her, or even come close to heR.)
Oscar has been a total love muffin. She takes every opportunity to
snuggle and purr so hard she drools. She even let DH hold her on his
lap while sitting at the computer (usually she jumps off right away;
this time she collapsed on his legs and drooled incessantly). As far
as I can tell, she purred the entirety of last night.
Poor kitty. I wonder if she thought we'd abandoned her. Come to
think of it, I don't think I've ever been away from her that long.

Agreed.

Hasn't Smokey always wanted Nox for his girlfriend and she just spurned him?
Then that was his moment of his best dreams. Awww.
