Annie Wxill - 31 Dec 2005 13:10 GMT > Hapurry new year to all in the eastern side of Australia. It's a few minutes after 7 a.m. here in Texas, U.S.A.
We just saw the live broadcast of the fireworks in Sydney. What a great show!
Happy New Year to everyone.
Annie, who does not make resolutions, but hopes that peace will prevail in our personal lives and in the world this year.
Tish Silberbauer - 31 Dec 2005 13:16 GMT YAAAY - 2006. On the stroke of midnight I was changing a litter tray. I kid you not. Priorities, you know!
Am now comforting the dog, who is terrified of the fireworks noises.

>Hapurry new year to all in the eastern side of Australia. ShirleyB - 31 Dec 2005 14:48 GMT This is so strange! It's only 6:39a.m., Saturday, 12/31 here on the Central Coast of California. I slept lousily all nite cause my hubby has been snoring, so I just gave in and got up. I walked around to make sure Rex and Lokie haven't wrecked the house during the night, then thought I'd check the newsgroup. You've already had your fireworks and I have to wait all day and evening!
What did (is) everyone do (doing) for NY's celebration? For once we're not going out to a restaurant for dinner. We're having a pot luck at some friends' home not too far away. Everyone is bringing a course, and we're taking dessert. I made my apple cheesecake (my one crowning glory). Not sure what the main course will be.
A friend of ours just moved with her fiance to near Sydney from the U.S. on 12/23. I'm hoping she enjoyed her first Australian new year!
Here's wishing everyone a peaceful, happy and healthy 2006!

Yowie - 31 Dec 2005 20:53 GMT Although we all went to bed early, Joel and I couldn't sleep, so thought we might as well stay up to see the new year in. At the stroke of midnight, Fluffy barked her darn fool head off at fireworks us deaf humans couldn't hear. And then the fireworks in the local area started in earnest.
Shmogg couldn't care less, he's seen at least 15 of these events, and if they don't involve food for him, he has a hard time raising any interest whatsoever. IBKFergus took the comotion as an excuse to run around the house, hoolikitten fashion. I don't think she was in the least bit frightened, but rather, using the unusual situation of the hoomins being up at that time of night to show off her acrobatic skills.
Poor old Fluff kept 'warning' us well into the night every tiome there was a loud bang or whistle. Its nto a scared bark but rather an "alert! noise outside! I'm on guard!" sort of bark. Unfortunatley, any sort of bark is loud and hard to sleep through, so Joel and I are tired this morning.
Thankfully, since Cary had been run utterly ragged earlier in the evening to the point where he *voluntarily* climbed onto Joel to go to sleep, he slept through the whole thing.
With all the noise and excitment, we missed the broadcast of the Sydney fireworks, but did get to see a few 'live' ones that got high enough to see over the rooftops.
Its already 30 C (86 F ) in my loungeroom, by the way
Happy New Year everyone.

It looked awesome.

I was in Bangkok with my friends again. We had a really nice dinner at Antonio's, our favorite Italian place. It was a dining experience and we dragged it out until 11:30. There were 11 of us and we had the entire upstairs of this little restaurant to ourselves, so it was like a small party. After the food, we had more drinks and saw in the New Year. Tony brought up a huge bottle of lemoncello for everyone and flaming sambucas too, on the house. We ended up staying until 3:30. Fun :-) Although I missed Dennis, it was nothing new, he missed last New Year's too and it still turned out to be a really good year for us. Maybe this year will be even better, I did eat the black eyed peas the next day. For some reason, all my friends here in Thailand seem to be from Texas, so they were on a mission to get the black eyed peas and we also had cornbread. All new stuff for this Canadian ;-)

I prefer a small, somewhat intimate gathering of friends, rather than a huge bash. Even though you were in a restaurant, you had the place to yourselves, so in some ways it was like having it at someone's house - someone with servants who keep providing you with food and drinks. :)
I usually have, or go to, a small party with more or less the same group of friends every year. But this year, the two people I usually make the plans with each had other plans. I got invited to a party by someone in one of my musical groups, and I knew it would be one of those crowded affairs where I don't know many people, and everyone's in little clumps having private conversations. Not my favorite way to bring in a new year, but it was either that or spend the evening watching Animal Planet. :)
When I first got there, it was extremely packed and the house was really hot. A few folks I know were there, including all 4 members of my music group, so that was nice, but mostly it was full of strangers. I'm not really that shy and I have no problem going to parties where I don't know anyone, but for New Year's I like to be with people I'm close to.
However, this turned out to be a friendly and interesting group. The party's theme was "Bollywood" and they played videos of Bollywood movies while a Bollywood soundtrack provided the music. At one point there was a performance by a belly dancer, doing, you know, the traditional Bollywood belly dance. :) OK, so there was a mish mash of cultural influences. There was lots of good food and interesting people, and overall it was worth going to.

Before we moved to Thailand, we had the same house party for 7 years in a row. It was all my girlfriends from high school and their significant others and it was in a huge house where everyone crashed for the night so nobody had to worry about drinking and driving. We had a theme every year and costumes and games. After we moved away, everyone had little kids and they haven't had the party since. Mind you, in a way I'm kind of glad about that because it makes me feel like I'm not missing anything ;-) I'm glad you went to the party and ended up having a good time. The Bollywood theme sounds great, I'll have to remember that because I'd love an opportunity to dress up in one of those belly dancing outfits!
