Thanks, Pat. I don't know anyone I'd trust with a key, let alone live-in
for a week. The vet staff takes good care of her, she just gets
understandably upset.
I had a bad experience with one of my brothers a number of years back. I
was going to be away for a couple of weekends (not a full week) in a row on
business. All he needed to do was walk my little old dog Saturday evening
and Sunday morning and make sure he had fresh food and water. I came home
to find he hadn't done a damn thing. The dog had his legs crossed and no
food. And I was *paying* him. Wound up not paying him, of course. Gotta
love some family.
I'll pack lightly but put a sweater in the suitcase just in case.

Did he just forget? Or did he just not bother? If he just didn't bother, I
think he would have been an "ex-brother" I doubt I would have spoken to him
again. There's no excuse for knowing that an animal depends on you and
deliberately not caring for them.
I wouldn't, either, expect to pay my brother for doing something for me. It
should be done for love.
That's what families are for.

He's pretty much my "ex brother" these days. I gave him other chances since
then (not with my pets) and he's just a selfish lunatic.

That's so sad. I have two younger brothers, and they are both busy with
their young families. One lives 100 miles away.
If I was desperate, and had to call on them to help me (which I try not to
do) I wouldn't have any worries whatsover that they'd do the right thing. I
could trust them to do everything properly.
If they had to.
I can't imagine what it might be like to have family you can't rely on.
Naughty family to not help you.
No, it would never happen here.
My aunt and uncle would definitely be here for me, even if my brothers were
too busy.
Do you mean to say that your brother knew he had to feed, and widdle and poo
your dog and deliberately chose not to?
If so,that is *definitely* an ex-brother. Unforgiveable.

I think he watched TV or something rather than let this little old doggie
out to do his thing twice each weekend. When I got home the 2nd weekend,
Sunday evening, there wasn't even food or water in the bowl for Sampson.
And the dog was about 15 years old at that point. I should have asked my
other brother to help, he's more reliable. But he didn't live as close so I
didn't want to bother him. He's definitely my *ex* brother. I haven't seen
him in over a year and haven't talked to him in months.
