It was his first time seeing "Dr. Missy" (this clinic has 5 different vets,
including Melissa Gourley), who was duly impressed by his beauty.

X-rays revealed no break and no dislocation, thank goodness, he just has a
great swelling and bruise from some unknown trauma and a bit of infection
starting where the skin was broken. He got a shot of clindamycin
hydrochloride as well as a week's worth of the same thing in capsules.

A side note: Abelard talked quite a bit both during the car ride and at the
clinic. It was nice to be reminded that he can actually meow. And while he
waited for me to run some errands, he got treats in the car. Then he sat on
my lap and kneaded my gut all the way home.

I'm so glad his tail is not actually broken. Wonderful news.

We are thankful that his tail was not broken.  We can only wonder what
happened:  caught in  a door, caught by a d*g or other beastie?  Guess we
shall never know.  Have you convinced him he should be a house pet?  MLB

No doors around here other than mine. Gloria's been gone for a week and is
staying gone for another one. And her dogs are very cat-friendly. The "other
beastie" theory could be correct, or it could have been snagged by some
barbed wire somewhere.

I'll never keep Abelard from going out, since that's where he prefers to
relieve himself (still seems to think he's too good to use a "public"
litterbox), but once we're living in town he will not be able to leave the
yard nor will other critters with the exception of squirrels, lizards, mice
and birds be able to come into the yard.

I'm so glad it wasn't a break! Those meds ought to take care of the
problem.

Great news that the tail wasn't permanently injured.  Give him a skritch
from me.

So glad to hear it wasn't anything so serious. Wish he could tell you
exactly what happened to him. Sweet man of the house.

I'm so glad it's not as bad as you first thought. Still purring for your
house purchase to go smoothly and you and your clowder are soon settled in
your new home.

That's a relief!  I was picturing him running around outside with the
end of his tail only hanging by skin!  Good news.
