Refridgerater kitties

Tony, at the ripe old age of eleven has discovered the inside of the
fridge.  I thought this was a kitten thing.  Stripey Thing climbed in
there everytime I opened it when he was a kitten but he outgrew it when
he didn't get anything.  At first at would drag Tony out by the scruff
of his neck grimacing as I did so because I don't normally treat the
cats so rough.  But now I have realized he will come out eventually -
within a minute if I call his name sweetly and pat my leg and clap my
hands and reach out to him.  The Stripey Thing, true to nature, comes
when I call Tony and tries to help by also climbing into the
refridgerator to say hi to Tony and lick his face.  I have to gently
push him away and tell him he is *not* helping the situation.

I am scared to death to just leave the door open and do what I was going
to do and then get the cat out of the fridge for fear I will forget the
cat is there, so I always get the cat out first and then close the door.
But I am really ready for this game to run its course.

Cats do love holes and cave-like spaces, so it's really a good safety
warning to remind people to keep a careful eye on an open refrigerator.
Another item that I have to "watch like a hawk" is my dishwasher.  Duffy
seems to be fascinated by it.  As soon as I open the door, he hops on it.  I
sometimes have to lift him off it half a dozen times before it is fully
loaded or unloaded (even with the basket pulled out, there is space on the
door for Duffy).  He has never gotten into the basket or beyond, but I
always take an extra-good look into the depths unless I already have both
Holly and Duffy in my sights.

Two more "cave-like" (to kitties) items that should be carefully checked
before using/closing are the washing and dryer.  Fortunately, mine are in a
utility room where I can (and always do) close the cats out so they can't
possibly get into trouble, but the washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven,
microwave, and refrigerator are all items that would cause a total and
tragic disaster if one of our furbabies managed to get inside undetected
(and trash compactors, for those who have them -- I don't).

That's my biggest fear when the girls are here.  I know to check the dryer
*EVERY* time before I close and start the dryer, but they don't live with
cats so it's not second-nature to them like it is to me.  My best friend's
sister-in-law's was killed that way.

I guess I must be lucky as neither of my cats have ever shown any
inclination to get inside anything like this, or even glanced in that
direction.  Even so, I keep the doors of my washing machine, oven and
microwave closed all the time.  I don't have a dryer or dishwasher and the
refrigerator is a small English-type one that fits under the worktop.  No
room for a cat in there between the shelves ;-)
They are very good cats, hardly ever any trouble at all.  They don't damage
things, knock ornaments off shelves, sit on my computer or keep me awake at
night.
They are very happy today after two days when meowmie didn't spend much time
with them.  We've had snow (not a lot) so they don't want to spend much time
outside.  The woodburner was lit in this room, the lounge, early this
morning and the gas fire is blazing away on full heat in the kitchen which
is where both cats are.    Boyfie is snuggled up in his bed-under-the-table
just a few feet away from the fire and Kitty FC is sprawled out ON HER NEW
BEAN BAG!! right next to it.

We're going nowhere today..

So she finally got on her new bed?  What did you do, tell her she wasn't
permitted on it?  ;>  Just kidding, I know she's a good little kitty and
much appreciates your taking care of her.

Seems to be a one off unfortunately.

They are very good really.  The only complaint I have is all the feathers
that they spread around in the house when they bring in their catch of a
birdie.  I hate them catching birds, but they *are* cats, after all, and
that's what cats do.

Caliban likes to climb into the dishwasher too. When I have the lower
basket pulled out, he hops right inside, into the space where the basket
goes. Fortunately, it's impossible to push in the basket if he's there,
so I don't think I could shut him in unawares. I always check, of
course. He also jumps into the fridge. Once I shut him in for a few
seconds, to scare him out of this habit, but when I opened the door
again, he lay there looking perfectly content among the food on the
lower shelf. Now I just lift him out every time he jumps in.
