How come everyone's vet is named Ted?

My four go to the Atlantic Cat Hospital, a vet hospital specializing
in felines only.

TED stands for the evil doctor, which makes sense from a cat's
viewpoint when someone is poking, prodding or stabbing with sharp
things, etc. Just sort of tongue in cheek, since many of us are
blessed with good cand caring vets.

It's been a while since anyone has mentioned it, but there is a FAQ
for the group which lists some of the acronyms - not all of course
since there always more popping up. You can find it at

TED is an acronym for The Evil Doctor - a nickname reflecting the
kittie's perspective.

Oh, I can think of some of my times with the pediatrician. On one
memorable occasion, my mother didn't say where we were going, but I
needed to be peeled off, successively, his maibox, lawn lamppost, outer
door, inner door, chair, exam room door, etc.

Eventually, the inappropriately named Dr. Small thundered "WILL YOU STOP
STRUGGLING? I gave you the shot 3 minutes ago."

Mandy called the hospital at Ft Campbell, "The Owie House."  They
insisted on giving her four shots in one day, one time.  She has hated
doctors ever since

That hospital was my first permanent duty station, a long, long, LONG
time ago (back in '75). Used to deliver the pharmaceuticals to the
various clinics on an electric cart through what seemed like miles of
corridors.

We were at the new hospital, the old one, which set some sort of record
for it's long corridors has been turned into facilities for about a
dozen different departments.  The new hospital has four floors and a ton
of clinics and is still (or was when we were there) hopelessly
inefficient.

Thanks for the clarification and the link to the FAQ!

Oddly enough, three of my cats LOVE the vet.  Tyche purrs so much the
vets cannot take her heartbeat.

Kumani was once seriously ill with flu and that taught her vet-hate,
to get a thermometer up her butt several times a day for half a week.
