I give up OT

Marina - 22 Dec 2005 20:12 GMT
Earlier this autumn, I congratulated myself on having such a good annual
check-up at the dentist's. She found nothing that needed work. Then last
week, I bit into a rye sandwich, and a piece of my front tooth, or
rather the filling that covered the front of my front tooth, cracked. I
got first aid at the free tooth clinic, and I saw my dentist yesterday
and had it fixed. The emergency dentist had written a note to my dentist
about what she'd done. Somehow she had worded the note very poorly, and
my TED thought the whole tooth had cracked. She was really sorry and
saying how I would need a lot of work, a temporary implant and then a
permanent implant etc.

But when she couldn't get the tooth to budge at all when she felt it,
she finally wipped out a mirror and told me to show her where it
cracked. I showed her the sliver on the side that had cracked (and the
emergency TED had glued back). Oh, she was so releived, this is easy to
fix! Forget about extractions and implants etc. This is just a breeze
compared to all that. Whew! I had started counting the cost of all the
procedures.

Well, today I was eating a sandwich. I hear a crack and feel that, by
now oh so familiar, feeling in my mouth. Yes, you've guessed it. This
time the whole tooth did crack.

I give up. I'm going to bed. Wake me up when it's 2006.

I'm so very sorry to hear that, Marina. You do so deserve a break!
Lots and lots of purrs and best wishes for your luck to change even
before 2006,

It sounds like we are going to have similar dental work!  I have to get
another crown next week.

Well, it could be said you could do with a break. But not one of those kinds
of breaks! You have my sympathy.

*OUCH*!!!  Dental purrs coming your way.

I'm afraid that's what's going to happen to me.  I have three root canals
that I haven't been able to get crowns for yet.

Here's to a nice long nap and a good new year.

There isn't a much worse time to mess up a tooth is there?   The Christmas
afternoon my brother broke off both his front teeth while teaching me to
roller skate was pretty bad timing too.

Hope the fix goes easier and less expensive than you think.

You've really got my sympathy, having had three teeth crack in the
past couple of years myself.  And I'm with ya -- wake me up when it's
2006!

Ouch!  Double dental purrs on the way from here.  Scooter sends a small
dollop of doggie-drool for you to get better.

I rang for a dentist's appointment first thing yesterday morning, and
was given one on 2nd January. Oh great, Yule without a front tooth, I
wouldn't be able to eat any of the yummy Yule food. But later in the
day, my dentist rang me and said she'd noticed I had made an
appointment, what was the problem and would I like to come in today?
Isn't she wonderful? It's a private practice, so it costs a lot, but if
I'd gone to the public health dentist, I'd have had to wait much longer,
and I'm not even sure they would do this kind of job.

Anyhoo, my dentist glued the piece back temporarily, and in January she
will extract it and start the process for an implant (I'll have to have
a temporary implant for 4-6 months first, to let the bone set before the
permanent implant is, well, implanted).

Well, I should at least be able to sample some Yule goodies, as long as
I do it very gingerly. And I won't scare the kids with a gap instead of
my front tooth (what kids? My youngest niece is 16).

I'm glad you were seen earlier, but I'm sorry it sounds like it's going to
be an expensive course of treatment. Purrs that nothing else goes wrong. I
hope you and your clowder have a wonderful Yule.

I'm so glad you could get at least a temporary fix for Christmas.

Happy to hear you were able to have it mended, if only temporarily, before
the holiday.

I'm so glad to hear your dentist was able to glue the piece back, but
I'm sorry to hear it will take so long (and will be so expensive) for
you to get the tooth implant,
