And evidently, he's not quite ready to check out of the Hotel de Vie
quite yet. =o) He cussed me out all the way home, when he wasn't
busily rubbing his muzzle against my finger, thrust into an airhole of
his carrying case. He's also been grumping at the girls, and giving me
evil looks, but then spoils the effect by coming up and rubbing
enthusiastically against me. I'm not sure Francesca is so overjoyed to
see him home--I think she enjoyed being the Top Cat. I must evidently
get more aggressive about pilling the old dear, though. I THOUGHT he
was swallowing his meds, but evidently, the little sneak has been
faking me out. BUt after a five day hospital stay his thyroid is much
better, if still just a bit high for comfort. He does look as if he's
put on a bit of weight, and his coat looks better for all the
Subcutaneous hydration he's been getting.
Dr. Mell very kindly billed me for the boarding rate per day for Pan's
hospital stay rather than the hospital rate, so my bill was not so bad
as I'd feared. I got out the door for under $200.00 much to my relief.
I'd been expecting to pay $300-400.00 dollars.
So Everyone, thanks SO MUCH for all the purrs and support--they were a
huge help. I'm most grateful to you all--Cat lovers are some of the
best people there are! I think Pan's lease on life may be limited due
to his age, but I don't think I'll have to say farewell quite yet. The
Power of the Purr is indeed amazing!

Yay! Sometimes a little re-hydration can really perk a cat up. Oh, and
actually taking his meds, LOL. Glad to hear he's doing better.

That is nice. Which vet hospital did you go to? Just wondering if it's
one of the ones I've used.

Oh, you're further up the peninsula than I was. I lived in Sunnyvale
and used to go to Adobe Animal hospital in Los Altos. Nice people and
competent staff there.

I'm so very happy to hear Panther bounced back so well! Growling and
grumbling is a Good Sign. :o) So is headbutting and purring. ;o) We are
purring that he continues in this strain for a long, long time yet.

Wonderful!!! I'm delighted for you and Pan. Purrs coming that he
continues to improve and enjoys his stay at the Hotel for a long, long
time. Having just gone through a close call with my Speckles, I can
certainly empathize with you and share your joy. Scritches to Pan.

Melissa,
this is wonderful news! Having had an elderly cat with many problems
(who went to the RB in 2000), I definitely relate to what you are going
through.
Have you considered giving Sub-Q fluids at home, if Pan will tolerate
it? Once or twice a week might make a big difference in how he feels. I
did that with Twilight (RB) as he struggled with the complications of
diabetes, and I believe it helped him enjoy his time with me more. I am
very amazed at how much better an elderly cat feels with the fluids.
Then again, _I_ notice that I feel rotten when I'm dehydrated. Anyway,
just something to think about. The process isn't too bad, as long as Pan
tolerates it.
Give Pan (and Franscesca and Nina) lots of pets and snuggles. I'm so
glad that you can enjoy his presence for a while longer.

Thanks goodness! I'm so glad he's feeling better.
I agree with others here - a bi-weekly subQ might be the best route to go.
I haven't done it, but I've heard from others that it's not too hard to do.

Excellent, excellent news! With all the kitties here and in RPCC going to
the Bridge lately, it's wonderful hear positive news.
We're going to keep purring for Pan, that he might have a good long time
with you yet.

This is always important to do during a car trip of any length. :)
I'm very glad that he's back to normal.
