Holy Bowl!

Ever since Miranda joined the family, I've kept the lid shut on the
toilet bowl to keep out curious little kitties. Today, I decided to see
what would happen if I left it open. Caliban is always veeery interested
in what happens in the toilet (we'll not get into details - let me just
say he gets very upclose and personal). Here is what happened:

http://tinyurl.com/8o4qv
http://tinyurl.com/7ryrv

I think I'd better keep the lid down in future, as well.

I made a couple of ice lanterns and set them up in the enclosure. I took
this pic with flash:

http://tinyurl.com/bxr9e

And these without:

http://tinyurl.com/dnoyw
http://tinyurl.com/8kvgz

(Caliban's paw was nowhere near the actual flame, he was just batting
the air. He does this in the litterbox, too. Stands above his offerings
and waves his paw in the air - nowhere near the litter.)

Awww,

Caliban is a very handsome cat.  I love the way they are so fascinated
my everything!  I do know a cat who likes to drink from the toilet bowl
- so watch out!

Pua does that and when I go to sit down, the seats always wet.  I try to
keep the lid closed, but my husband never remembers.  I usually get a wet
tushy.  :~)

I had a kitten who fell in, once!  I usually keep the lid
down, but forgot.  She was used to jumping up on the closed
lid, and evidently didn't look before she leaped.  I was
sitting in a chair, reading, so my first inkling of what had
happened was when a throughly drenched white kitten crawled
up on my lap!

I have to keep mine closed, otherwise the inside is covered with
little black Dante pawprints.

The funny part is, he has this utterly disgusted look on his face while
doing it, like 'I cannot bear to touch this filth. Will you please come

Holy monster mog, batman!
Either you have very dainty miniature loos over there, or Caliban is
getting REALLY big.
What handsome markings he has.

He is getting REALLY big. And he's only eight months old. :o/ The
trouble is, his brain hasn't caught up with the rest of him yet, so he
still thinks he's a tiny little kitten. He tries to creep into places he
has no chance of fitting in, and he tries to curl up on my chest while i
watch TV, but he's just too big. Very clumsy too.

With Waffles & being outnumbered by the males in the household, most of the
time at Chateau Simmons, the lids are up.... Frequently I have to remind
Francis and Marble that they fill me full of angst when I hear the sounds of
said boycats lapping from the bowl.... Waffles, of course, is more refined
than the boys as she prefers a dripping tap.

Those two certainly show how big he's grown, and he's still a kitten. I
think you may need a larger home. ;o)

Very nice lantern!

I think an interest in toilets and sinks must be a normal kitten thing.

And he is big! Though he's a lot younger than Harri, he's quite a bit
larger than her.

This is Sugar's customary pose after flushing. She slinks around a moment
then rushes and hangs over the edge and then ruuuuuuuuns off like the devil

Persia accidentally flushed the toilet once.  She was sitting on the lid and
decided the flush handle was a toy.  She started pushing on it with her
paw... then she pressed down and FLUSSSSSHHHHH.  Scared the crap out of her
(pun intended) and she went dashing off.  Oooh, that evil white bowl! :)

Caliban does the flushing himself. The mechanism is an oval button. if
you press one side of it, you get a small flush, if you press the other
side, you get a big flush. Sometimes when I'm sitting on the throne,
Caliuban comes careening into the small room, rushes up me, over my
shoulder, and jumps on the tank, hitting the button and flushing the
toilet. Sometimes he does it when I'm not even there. I'll just suddenly
hear a >flush< from the bathroom. The worst thing is when it happens in
the middle of the night. :oP

Now, why aren't all toilets designed this way? That is so smart, and
yet, so obvious, really.

And it kind of defeats the purpose of the dual-flush mechanism, which I
assume is to save water when you don't need to flush that much. I often
wonder, when someone talks about their cat being fascinated by a flushing
toilet (and who learns how to do it), what their water bill must be like!

It's what all toilets in Australia seem to be like.  Personally, I'd
never seen it before we went there.

And quite common, in Europe, I think - at least most of my
hotel bathrooms have had such an arrangement.  (Fewer things
to go wrong with the flush mechanism, too, since the button
controls the plug directly, instead of the system of
ball-cocks and levers you find in the U.S.)

Very cute! I think all of my cats were (accidentally) baptised in the
bowl and/or tub as kittens.  That only had to happen once per cat and
they learned to avoid it. I have, however, caught MIthu drinking from
the bowl, so I enforce a "lids-down" policy in the house at all times
now.

Cute! Though, what would happen if he did lap some of the water? I
don't think it's bad for cats. Remember, these are animals that lick
their own butts after using the litterbox! :)

This is really pretty! How does it stay frozen - is it outside? I guess
I'm not sure what you mean by the "enclosure" - is it a non-insulated
part of your apartment?

I'll bet you're glad the solstice is almost here!!

Oh, I'm not really worried about him drinking the water, but rather that
he will fal in and not get back out. He's a bit clumsy, what with his
body growing faster than his brain can keep up. ;o)

The place where I live now has a little garden attacjhed to it, and I
had an enclosure built for the cats. Here's an album of pictures from
the enclosure when it had just been built:

> I'll bet you're glad the solstice is almost here!!

It wouldn't be so bad if there was snow to lighten things up, but there
isn't. They're saying there should be snow at the end of the week.
Somehow, it always seems to snow just a few days before Xmas.

I can't explain the thermodynamics behind it, but they seem to work
fine. This is the first time I've made any, though, so don't know yet
what will happen. Of course, mine are completely open, so there is no
melting above the candles.

Yes, well the lady at the ANZ bank in Margaret River told us that a
friend of a friend told her that she knows someone who had to actually
scrape frost off her windshield twice last winter when heading to work
in the early morning.   Brrrr!  But the story does seem a bit
farfetched, being 4th hand info and all that ;-)
