The Great Feline Bait and Switch
This story is based on a dream I had last night. Not exactly a fun,
or good dream, but not exactly a nightmare. I woke up and had
forgotten the beginning, so I had to make one up. Even the ending
is made up because I woke up without a complete ending. The middle
made me want to make up a full story. For the record, I like
squirrels.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Across the town, squirrels had taken over everywhere. All of the
cats were indoors so they had to watch the antics from behind
windows. The squirrels climbed up walls, flicked their furry tails,
and basically taunted the cats by hanging on screen windows, and
laughed at the cats that couldn't catch them. Word got out to the
foxes that food was abundant in this small town, so they came in
droves to pick off the many squirrels that were frolicking and
feeding on the fallen acorns in every front and back yard
throughout the town. The squirrels were stoopid, they buried nuts
that they'd never find again, no? The cats watched the carnage with
jealousy and licked their lips. The cats hated the foxes. They
wanted nothing more than to get rid of them and have the squirrels
all to themselves.
The leader, Rhett, talked with his friends Scarlett, Bonnie and
Shamrock, and wondered what could they do to stop the evil foxes?
They were so tired of watching the antics of the squirrels knowing
they couldn't be the ones to stop them. They knew they had the
power of mind control. It worked on the hoomin, didn't it? After a
while, they felt sorry for the squirrels. The cats with their
leader sat at the window and telepathically sent out messages to
the many squirrels that if they could find a way in, they'd keep
them safe from the foxes. They'd started liking them. They looked
like fun to play with!
The message was received loud and clear by the squirrels. Their
leader knew of a small opening that would lead them inside where
the cats would protect their remaining numbers from the foxes. So
they slowly made their way in, and since the hoomin was not home,
they sampled the food and found places to hide later.
This went on for a while, with the squirrels coming in before the
hoomin got home and going back out in the daytime after the foxes
went away to their homes. Oh, they had such fun at night
frolicking and even the hoomin remembered dreams of little
squirrels running over her and under and over the blankets while
the cats chased them. It had to be a dream.
Rhett was very happy with this arrangement. He grinned a Cheshire
grin as he looked down at his fat belly. He laughed that the foxes
circled around but didn't find any food.
The hoomin started noticing that the cats weren't eating their food
anymore. She noticed that her dreams of squirrels frolicking under
the covers at night and the chases across the bed were not
happening every night any more.
She finally realized it wasn't a dream and the squirrels were gone.

LOL! That's the only part of the dream I remember. Squirrels running
up and down my bed and under the covers. You know what sparked it
(at least I think so; who can tell why one dreams what one dreams?)
There are tons of squirrels outside and the cats are going nuts
watching them. They are burying acorns in the dirt outside the front
window. At times there are a half dozen out there. LOL

Do you ever try and go back to sleep to find out how a dream ends? I do, but
so far it doesn't work.

When I try to return to a dream, it never works.
When I finally go back to sleep after a horrible nightmare -- the
nightmare often comes back.
Go figure.

I try, but I rarely get back to sleep after waking up from a dream.
It was a silly dream, silly story.
