BACK / NEWS:  OK, I'm back - only 220 posts to catch up on!  Two reasons I
was away - tons of work and my computer cr*pped out on me.  We had to get me
a new one (had to put it on plastic, which I hate since we took out our
entire life savings to pay off the last plastic debt - sigh).  I did get a
good buy on a flat screen monitor (in for a penny, in for a pound!).  The
only problem is I can't get it to run on my old computer with the correct
drivers.  It's a widescreen and supposed to be set to 1440 x 900 - but I
have to leave it set (for now until I get the new computer up and running)
at 1024 x 768 - so all the graphics are stretched out weirdly.  I hated
having to buy all this stuff, especially now, but I make our living on my
computer and it was a must-have.

WHINE:  The kids left for New Orleans this morning for the 2 weeks they have
off for Christmas vacation - *and I miss them already*!  They did leave the
dogs to keep me company!  :<

It's possible you may have to buy a new graphics card too.  Sorry, I
know that means you'd have to buy even more stuff. :)  When I got a
widescreen, I found that no matter what drivers I used, my card simply
did not support the native resolution of the monitor.  It had dozens
and dozens of resolutions that were close, but not the exact one.
Newer cards seem to be made with the newer widescreen resolutions in
mind.

So why not just use the old machine instead of buy a new one for no
reason? Obviously it's working even if the drivers are not correct. Have
you tried going to the monitor or video cards manufacturer's web site
and see if they have newer versions of the drivers available?

No, you misunderstand, my old computer cr*pped out on me - it keeps freezing
up when I try to run the programs I need to run to do my job (I work from
home and this is my tool).  I was/am still able to do simple things like
check email, but I can't program on it.  Since this is how I make our living
I had no choice but to buy a new computer (the old one couldn't be fixed -
this diagnosis from DH whose done computer hardware repair for the last 20
years and would not have agreed to a new computer unless he knew the old one
couldn't be fixed).  My boss won't provide me my equipment since it was part
of our employment agreement that I have my own "tools" (getting a hefty
raise and being able to work from home, I readily agreed to this).

Hugs,
