Brando's sick

As I write this, my beloved big wonderful former feral baby, Brando,
is at the vet's.  He had some blood in his urine, and terrible
diarrhea over 24 hours, so we took him into the vet yesterday.  They
wanted to keep him overnight to get a urine sample.

I called them today, and they aren't sure what exactly is wrong.  They
think he may have some mild infection of the urinary system, so they
are sending antibiotics home with him.  They couldn't see any
crystals, which is good (some of you may remember, Brando has a
tendency to block, and once blocked completely).  They are thinking
the diarrhea may be temporary (he was fine this morning, apparently),
possibly brought on by stress from Kate and Jack running around
(although Brando likes other cats, so I'm not sure that's it).  But,
anyway, that problem seems to have stopped for now.  The other
possibility is that he may have gotten into something he shouldn't
have, but I can't imagine what, since nothing is new around here that
hasn't been here for years.

A friend and neighbor is going to bring him home, since she works very
close to the vet's and lives close to us and we, of course, would have
to take the bus otherwise.  I can't wait for him to be home!  I miss
my special Little Big Man.  I hope this is something temporary, and he
will be fine.

To top off the day, the landlord hired some folks to clean out the
furnace ducts.  Which is normally a "YAY!", considering they haven't
been cleaned in at least 20 years, and with all the asthma and
emphysema and dust allergies around here, it should make a big
difference.  But have you tried moving around eight cats, sticking
them in one room and then another, so the big guys with big shoes and
big hoses and loud noises can do this thing?  Now I think *all* the
cats are traumatized!  At least Brando was peacefully at the vet's at
the time!

Fun, fun, fun.  I think I am going to repeal the year of 2005.

I read a quote somewhere recently.  I can't give it accurately, but the
gist is something like this:   Life is hard.  Once you realize and accept
this, life gets easier.    Purrs that it will for you and yours.   MLB

Ginger-Lyn, you and Richard could write a book on bad luck!  May the new
year be kind and gentle to you both and to your wonderful family of cats.
Here is hoping that your Special Guy, Brando, comes home and gets better
quickly (after the big men in the boots do the cleaning)!   Charleen

Purrs and prayers for Brando to get healed soon. I really hope it is
some minor thing. Poor boy. Please give him some scritches from me.

Purrs for all of your guys. And for Brando. I went through this
recently with the ducts being cleaned and put everyone in my
bedroom. The duct cleaners were able to clean it out from below.
However, I wasn't satisfied because the guy in charge said the duct
was in one place, but I knew there was a vent near the window.  He
had one of his workers take a high-powered vaccum cleaner into the
room (it didn't have a hose that ran outside, so he could shut the
door behind him) and vaccum it out that way. It was loud, but all
the furries got over it as soon as they left.

Poor Brando! I hope he's OK, or that whatever is ailing him is
easily treated.

Purrs for a quick recovery!

Purrs that he'll be on the mend soon and that it's nothing too serious.
Also purrs for your shattered nerves!

My big guy came home yesterday, and stuck to me like glue most of the
night.  We were both so happy to be back with each other :-)

I am giving him antibiotics, 1/2 pill twice a day (they're very pretty
purple pills -- lol!).  He is not too thrilled with this invasion, but
he is tolerating it as best he can.  They are hoping the antibiotics
will clear up the problem; if not, we are looking at more testing and
such.

The Big Men in the Big Boots did their job and left.  Now it smells
*really* weird in here.  They say it's because all the dust and dirt
is gone, the corrosion is exposed, so we will be smelling that smell
for a few days.  Fun!  The cats pretty quickly got over the trauma,
and were back to their usual silliness in no time.

Silly Merlyn simply would not come out of the one room, but she is so
high-strung I figured she wouldn't come out of her hiding place and go
anywhere near the Big Men in Big Boots.  And she didn't.

Hopefully Brando's antibiotics will do the trick.  He was such a big,
lovey snuggle-bunny last night.  We must have laid in bed and snuggled
and petted and purred for a couple of good hours at least.  I love
that guy to pieces.

Thanks for all the purrs and good wishes.  You guys are the best!

Ginger-lyn

I hope so too!  He's a sweetie.  I don't know if I would ever notice
blood in the urine - everything in the litterbox just looks like gray
clumps to me.
