Abused kitty

I'm sure Shamrock feels very abused tonight. His Depo shot came in
the mail today, and it's a big needle. Plus, he had to get his dose
of Clomicalm (daily) and today is his 2x weekly day for allergy shot.

I think we're going to give the Atopica drug a shot for his allergies
and see if we can get rid of the allergy shots. Who knows, maybe once
his allergic dermatitis is gone (purrs please!), maybe he will calm
down and quit attacking everyone, and won't need the Clomicalm
anymore.

Oh, I hope so!  Allergies are such a mess to deal with.  They scratch and
scratch and there's nothing you can do to help.  I wish you purrs of good
luck!

Purrs and prayers are on the way for poor Shamrock to feel better soon and
get off some of his medications.
Hugs, too, to the rest of you who have to suffer along with him.

Poor Sham, Buddy.  Hope you stop itching, and you're your delightful
self again soon.

There are two poor abused kitties over here who want to send Shamrock
their best soothing purrs. May the itching stop!

They thank you and send more. I hope your next vet visit proves
that they don't have to go through more dips. I'm sorry but I had
to giggle at your description of wet Caliban.  ;)

Oh, that is so rough on him getting all those shots. I hope you can
eliminate one. Why does the Depo shot have to have such a big needle?
Purrs for Shamrock to get better.

I don't know for sure, but maybe it has to do with where in the
tissue it's injected to that it has to be delivered. You're a
nurse, so maybe you can tell me if that could be the possible
reason? Maybe the allergy serum only has to be delivered just under
the top skin layer to be effective. I know the Depo doesn't have to
be delivered intra-muscularly.... Good question. I'd like to know
too!

Let me run through the rationale for various kinds of injections.

In people, one of the major reasons to go intramuscular rather than
subcutaneous is that you can generally inject more volume into the
muscle. With their looser skin, cats should be able to take
proportionately more subcutaneously.

Intradermal injections, such as allergy shots, are done partially
because you want to be sure to be able to see skin reaction.  If
there's a violent reaction, it's better to have it localized than to do
a deeper injection where it would be more likely to have system-wide
effects.

Who are all these jerks, and why are we stuck with them posting here?
We used to get trolls from time to time, but now it seems like the
trolls have moved in permanently. They're not even cat slaves.

I suggest people not respond to them, and they will eventually leave
out of boredom.

Or Cheryl, maybe you have a good holiday recipe to share?? :)

Here's one I just tried recently. It was as delicious as it sounds.
And very easy.

Apricot Chicken

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 2 turns of the pan
2 pounds chicken tenderloins, cut in 1/2 across on an angle
Salt and pepper
1 large onion, chopped
2 tablespoons cider or white wine vinegar
12 dried pitted apricots, chopped
2 cups chicken stock
1 cup apricot all fruit spread or apricot preserves
3 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley, for garnish

Heat a large skillet with a lid over medium high heat. Add oil and
chicken. Season with salt and pepper. Lightly brown the chicken a few
minutes on each side, add onions. Cook 5 minutes. Add vinegar to the
pan and let it evaporate. Add apricots and stock. When stock comes to
a bubble, add preserves and stir to combine. Cover pan, reduce heat
and simmer 10 to 15 minutes.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 6 servings

Late response; poor Shamrock.  Poor you!
