... and poor Caliban

The ringworm treatment for the kittens is under way. They get medicine
one week, then one week off, then one week on, one week off, and one
week on. The vet also gave me a liquid med to mix in water to make a dip
for them. I got my sister, the animal caretaker, to come and help me dip
Caliban today. The dip itself went fairly easily and quickly, but now I
have a very wet and pitiful little Caliban mewling in the bathroom. The
vet said to let him dry by himself, but he can't lick himself, so he's
wearing a collar. I only have one collar, so i could only dip one cat at
a time. It's Miranda's turn tomorrow.

Poor Caliban. He really looks pitiful, all wet and with the collar, and
he keeps meowing sadly. He's locked into the bathroom so Miranda doesn't
lick him dry. Poor baby. Same again tomorrow.

Awww. Poor little thing, at least he'll soon be dry, and it doesn't really
hurt him. Purrs that both are soon free of ringworm.

Awwww... poor baby!!!! I take the dip is a one-time deal? Can you help
dry him with a hair dryer?

The vet said that I should dip them a few times during the treatment,
but she's going to test them half-way through to see if they need more
dips. And I'm not supposed to help him dry, but let him dry naturally,
but I feel so sorry for him that I did rub him a little with a towel.

I agree.  Not a fun treatment for your baby.  Give Cali a kiss for me.

Ugh. I hate things like that. Give him extra skritchies when dry for me. Is
it ok for him to lick once he is dry??

Yes, apparently it is OK to lick then. According to the vet, who had
talked about this with the manufacturer.

Poor widdle guy!  Extra scritches & treats from us please.

But don't be too upset, kittens are resilient and you'll remember the trauma
much longer than they will.

PS How's Cal's acne? Claudius' is nearly gone, and the antiseptic chin-scrub
is down to once a week now.

It's almost gone, though I must admit I didn't do anything about it.
Except maybe be a little more vigilant about clean bowls.

Sometimes thats all it takes.  We have two food dishes for the cats.  And we
run the dishwasher at least once every two days.  I always make sure one cat
food dish is in and I change dishes when its done so they get a squeaky
clean dish every other day.  I've learned that Jake drools when he eats so
the bowl gets nasty.  (this is for dry food)

They drink from large disposable plastic cups to those get changed every few
days as well.

Poor little fellow! That would definitely put a crimp in MY holiday
spirit, too. First being dipped, and then being collared so that I
couldn't wash myself dry, and then being left alone in the bathroom
with a Meowmy who wouldn't let me out. =o(

But If that's what must happen to get rid of the ringworm, then that's
what must happen. I hope soon both Miranda and Caliban will be ringworm
free.

AAKK!  Purrs for Caliban! It's so hard to tell them that what we're
doing is to help them. I still try to and talk to Shamrock every
time I give him an injection, or a capsule, and just tell him this
is to help him feel better. Of course he doesn't understand. Maybe
the tone and talking helps.

I always did that with Frank when i had to give him meds. It never
helped. Both I and my sister tried to soothe the kittens during the dip,
but I don't think it had much effect on them. It's Miranda's turn to be
locked in the bathroom now. I can hear her plaintive little meows. :o( I
hope she forgives me as quickly as Caliban did.

Purrs for Caliban and Miranda. I hope they don't hold a grudge and
seek vengeance. Oh, well. I'm sure you will hug them anyway. ;-)

My two are sending along comforting purrs for the poor kitties
who won't understand why they have to be abused like that.

And my strongest sympathies for the poor meowmie who's tender
heart is going to take a beating until the ringworm is
conquered.

Thanks for all your purrs. I'm sure they helped Caliban forgive me so
quickly. Keep them coming, so Miranda does too. She's in the bathroom
now, wet and with the collar on. Poor baby. She doesn't look as pathetic
as Caliban did, since her fur is so thin. Caliban's legs and tail looked
quite ridiculously thin when they were wet. :oP

Isn't ringworm a nasty thing to deal with?  I clear Pua up, I let her out of
isolation, I clean the room she was in as thoroughly as possible and Tryone
got spots on his head.  I clear him up and now Chloe's got a spot on *her*
head.  I'm still treating Chloe; it's been about 2 weeks now.  Pua arrived
in August, so it's been 4 months of treating cats total.  ACK!  I SO know
what you're going through.

Aww, poor babies. Neither Caliban nor Miranda have any spots, and
neither do I, but the test showed that Caliban is still a carrier, so
the odds are, Miranda is too. So we'd better treat them for it now,
rather than wait for either of them to show any signs of an infection.
