Chia Pet for Cats

Saw this advertisement on late-night television. Chia-pets are these odd
clay things with seeds in them and you put water in them and they sprout
"hair" which is essentially a type of grass. This is sprouting cat grass
from a pot with Sylvester & Tweetie Bird on the planter:

I saw that, too! Isn't it ridiculous? I don't get it! They say it's for
cats that like to dig up plants (like mine do, no more indoor plants
here....), but so this Chia encourages them to dig *it* up? How odd is
that?

It doesn't exactly say it will keep them from digging. What it says is
"Keeps cats away from hazardous houseplants". If you have a cat (or a dog)
who likes to chew on houseplants, you shouldn't *have* any hazardous
houseplants!

At any rate, I wouldn't pay $20 for a pot and some cat grass seed. You can
buy a small bag of those seeds at PetCo, PetSmart and other places. Small
pots are cheap and I'd definitely go for plastic, not ceramic!

Don't Chia Pets have the grass/plant growing out of small holes in the
planter?

If that were the case, the cat wouldn't be able to get at the
roots/soil to dig, because the grass would be growing through holes in
the ceramic.

The regular chia pets have that. This appears to be simply a small ceramic
planter. Plastic would make more sense :)

Persia doesn't dig in pots or chew on plants. But the plants I have in the
oak corner plant stand next to the window have met with ill fates when a
strange cat appeared on the patio by the window. She got all bushy tailed,
yowled, and in her attempts to get TO the strange cat, she managed to knock
over the plant stand and smash the pots and kill some of the plants. What a
mess to clean up!

Persia does NOT like the sight of other cats encroaching on her territory.
